What was you r stike water volume for that amount of grain ?
20L, but there’s about 7l dead space in the Brewzilla at the bottom and around the sides of the malt pipe.

I think the efficiency isn’t that bad to be honest- the sparge runnings were still at 1.035, so if I’d put the last few litres through I reckon I’d have been at target OG and volume.

I just fancied making something a bit stronger while the opportunity arose.

My last few beers have had really poor efficiency, so I wonder if the thicker mash, and mash out has helped?

Making the most of what you got 😉 I would suggest that 6kg + with 20 will be very thick , I brew in a brewzilla 35L 3.1.1 and consider 5kg to 20L to be 'normal'. I also use brewfather so will follow the recipe but still think that's a little low
But bet it's a cracking pint

Fingers crossed.

If I make it again I’d definitely add a couple of litres more in the mash.

Efficiency is probably low, but it’s better than my last stout- I used 6.4kg of grain, ended up with full volume but at 1.048 OG, so this is progress 👍🏻

I’ve never used Pia for anything but a New Zealand beer. I would be interested how it turns out.
Hi @Appleton Brews to answer your question, it has come out really nice.

It’s not a bitter along the lines of Tribute with loads of yeast character, but a really smooth pint with a nice malt flavour.

Bonus is that this yeast clears really fast. 16 days in the keg, no finings and it’s crystal clear
