Hi guys,
I'm brand new to the home brewing and I've just had my very first go at it using a Simply Yorkshire bitter kit, it's been in the FV for 3 days now, had a SG of 1020 and waiting another few days before taking another reading, I'm wondering can anyone give me advice on what gravity reading to expect before bottling as the packet never actually specified, also any other hints or tips would be greatly appreciated

Id try to just leave it alone for a few days and let it do its thing.
1020 seems quite low fro a SG but it may just be a low strength ale? Im guessing it should drop to around 1010?

I take it you mean the SG was 1.020 when you measured it after 3 days? If so, that's pretty normal. I'd leave it another week if you can before checking again, by which time it should be around the 1.010 mark or thereabouts.

If you can leave it for a full two weeks from when you started it, it will have a cleaner flavour when it's ready to drink.

Once it is bottled (don't forget the priming sugar in each bottle - white sugar is fine for this), leave the bottles for 1-2 weeks in the warm (around 20C) and then 3-4 weeks in the cool (10-15C if possible, or as cool as possible if not) so the beer can absorb the CO2 produced by the priming sugar. After that (so 8 weeks in total) you should have a really nice tasting beer!
 
Yes, 1.020 would be low for an original gravity but assuming that was taken 3 days in then that sounds like it's going well.

I'd leave it alone for another week before reading it again. You'll probably want to see anything under 1.010. Then give it another couple of days and if it has stayed the same then you're done.
 
If 1.020 is actually the reading you took when you made the kit then you probably didn't mix the malt extract in properly. But don't worry, the yeast should find all the sugars. Once the gravity reading has been constant for 3 days then it is ready to bottle, although leaving it a little longer would help it clear.
 
Just did a gravity reading, measured 1010, had a sneaky taste as well, didn't taste too bad actually, had a developing bitter taste but the texture seemed watery, was very cloudy though. So if I've got things right here, check the gravity again over the next 2 days, if the reading stays the same then it's ready to keg?
