What you have done with the silicone is absolutely ideal.

SloeBrewer said:The most vigorous fermentation occurs in the first day or two, after which it will settle down, but leave it in the bucket for at least 2 weeks.
ScottM said:You have about twice as much water in the airlock as is required
It will end up bubbling over with that amount in.
When filling one you want to go between 1 bulb filled on each side and 1.5 bulbs on each side filled :)
ScottM said:Give it till next weekend bud. Gives the yeast time to clean up and allows it to settle :)
ScottM said:If you're feeling patient, and equipment allows, transferring to secondary would be a good option. Given how vigorous the ferment was the inside of the FV may be prone to infection.
I always transfer to secondary for 10 days to get it off the trub and to allow the yeast to clean up and fall.
My general rule is 10 days primary, 10 days secondary, bottle, 14 days @20, 14 days as cold as possible and then store to condition for a month or 2.

He's a "non-secondary" guy then. There are different schools of thought on whether to transfer to secondary or not. I always transfer to secondary for a week and I always will. IMO the end result is a cleaner beer that takes a lot less time to clear in the bottle.
Checking the gravity and getting the same reading across 2 days is a good indication that fermentation has finished, however always make sure that you are getting a figure that makes sense for the end of fermentation. For example, seeing 1.030 2 days on the trot would indicate a stall rather than it having finished.
You can't REALLY go wrong. As long as everything is clean and well prepared you will be absolutely fine.
Next time you do a kit I would recommend starting with the bucket with tap, moving to the secondary FV after 10 days then moving back to the bottling bucket (original bucket with tap) after a further 10 days with sugar etc all ready for bottling. Total time taken is 20 days from bucket to bottle.
Check out the guide in my signature below, that's exactly what I do with kits now.
