Hi,
I've recently got back into hombrewing after about 10 years and decided to use ingredients instead of the kits I used to use but I can't get the beer to clear, this is my recipe and method:-
Golding hops 87g
Spraymalt 2K
Sugar 850g
Water 5gall
I boil 1 gall of water with all but 2 handfulls of hops for 45 mins. I then strain into the FV and squeeze as much liquor from the hops as I can. Then I stir in the spraymalt and sugar until dissolved and return to the pan and bring to the boil and simmer for 5 mins then pour back into the FV and add cold water to 5 galls. When the temp is at 21grdrees C I add a sachet of youngs ale yeast .
After 24 hours I skim off the scum and wipe off the dead yeast from the side of the FV.
I do the same on day 2 and then add the remaining hops and stir in with a good rousing!
After the fermentation has stopped, day 5 or 6 i put it in the coldest place I can find, under the stairs, for 2 days and then I have bottled it and I have keg'd it and left for 3 weeks.
The beer tastes great but it's cloudy!
It doesn't upset my stomach and can't fault it in any way except it hasn't dropped bright!
What am I doing wrong?
Should I add finnings and at what stage should I add them?
