Will let you know, just bought 25kg bag after good recommendations on here

Just bought a few bits from them for the first time and had a reliable DPD service so I though I’d try a bag on my next order.

I used it in my chocolate orange porter. Early samples have been delicious. Delivery was about 3 days from ordering.

I've ordered some other malts from them, in the from of 500g of brown malt, 2 kilos of dark Munich, and 1 kilo of Simpsons golden naked oats. Yummy. ;)

Im going to give it a try when I run out of MO.
Are you buying 25kg crushed malt? I would have thought it wouldnt stay fresh for very long if bought crushed, I like to keep a good stock of different grains so bought a mill and only buy whole malt. Im not sure how long crushed stays good for but I suspect it should be used after only a few weeks, couple of months very maximum.

I had a bag for about 5 months kept in a sealed fermenter and it was no different first to last use. I've read a few people on here using crushed malt for a year as long as it's kept damp free.

I have used this malt several times and it is good and efficient also regards the crushed malt I believe it to be nowhere as critical as some people suggest I have had crushed malt for months and not noticed and discernible difference although you will always get the purists say that it should be fresh ground ( yes fresh will always be hard to beat but the difference is not really noticeable). Buying in bulk is really the only way for homebrewers to save costs and to have malt at hand for that impromptu brew. Buy it you will not be disappointed and save at the same time. I have also just got the Propino to try

I've had no trouble buying ready crushed in bulk so far. I bought 25k of Maris otter and 25k of Dingemans Pilsen last year, the MO I finished fairly recently, I'm still using the Pilsen. Efficiency hasn't dropped over time, and it tastes just the same as when I first started using it. You just have to keep it sealed up, stop moisture from getting at it.

I don't buy my speciality/roast malts in bulk, as I use too wide a variety and would end up with a house full. I'd be tempted to get my Munich in bulk though, but 2 25k sacks is enough to store as it is... It's an option though when the Pilsen runs out, if I decide not to bother with another (I only really use it for Saisons, and you can make them just as easily with Hook Head I reckon). I get through a LOT of Munich as I use it in pretty much everything....

HBC sell in 10k lots though as well, which is a nice compromise. Good way of buying bulk without going full on I reckon.
