Another great way to get rid of some stale sliced bread:
  • Toast the bread and cut it into "soldiers".
  • Pour into a bowl 50:50 Balsamic Vinegar and Virgin Olive Oil.
  • Add a few olives and a sprinkle of salt.
Use the toast to fish out and eat the olives; and to clean out the bowl when the olives are finished. athumb..

Daft init that strawberries and balsamic should be together but it does work I've had it with strawberries in a salad and then balsamic as a dressing

One of the best bar snacks I've had was toast soldiers smeared in anchovy paste, with a soft-boiled egg to dip them in. Perfect mix of crunch, fishy-saltiness and goo from the egg yolk.

Anchovies are a generally useful thing to have BTW, if we're talking store cupboards - I have to stop SWMBO snacking on them as she eats them like crisps or olives, they're too useful for pepping up pasta sauces etc.

She decided we wanted a (fake) dominoes cheese burger pizza yesterday. First time I've ever made dough.
