I made this kit a few months ago and the smell of rotten eggs was rather overpowering  . I fllowed the instructions and bottled it, opened a bottle of it this weekend and it's still got the smell of rotten eggs  , not so much as it did but still not drinkable. I'm hoping that by Christmas it will be better

Hi,

I have brewed both the elderflower and the pear cider kits. Patience is a virtue with regard to these kits, the pear kit basically tastes like pear drops for the first few months, but given time to mature (I'm drinking a kit bottled appox 5 months ago), the taste will improve considerably.
When I brewed the elderflower kit I added freshley pressed apple juice from approx 1kg of apples. This produced a excellent cider so I presume you could add additional bought apple juice (boiled first to remove preservatives etc) to suppliment the kit.

Happy Brewing,

Brett.

Hi all,
this was a thread from April and I have not changed my opinion since then, but others may have a different view, I fully appreciate.
I tried a bottle , only got one left now, a couple of week ago and it was ............ just a bit............ artificial and thin for me. Its had plenty of time :(
The other bottles have been drunk and did not have a "bad" taste........... but it was ............. well .......lets say of all who tried it no-one said "thats smashing I'll have another please " ;)
I don't get this reaction when I give someone a turbo or one of my beers ;)

That is a shame really!
Apart from one bottle that remained 'flat' .... all but one that tried it, loved it!

I'm not in a hurry to do another one just yet due to the high demand for my Mild  , but I'll be doing another one in the New Year!

The only real failure so far was a Ginger Beer kit .... but that'll be given another go too at some point!

I know that this is an old thread, but for anyone who searches and finds it...

I did finish that Magnum Strawberry cider and it was very drinkable. Not very strawberry but it was fine and even some non-cider-drinkers were won around by it! I think my first kit must have just gotten infected or suffered low nutrition or w/e.

Glad it turned out for you Spitfire.
Personal choice, but for me if I want pears drops I'll get a bag of em, if I want strawberries I'll have em with cream, if I want cider it will be turbo, ..................off to Lidel this weekend, someone said apple juice was on at a good price. :D

Well, it sas no better by Christmas. I'll leave it in the shed until Summer, if it's still no good, it's going down the drain.

Just found what must be my last bottle, 10 months old, not because I found it, because its my last bottle. ;)
Well, it was quite drinkable, but ................... it was a bit ............. not like pear for sure, even Mrs. S. was not impressed and she can drink most things.
No its definitely turbo for us :D :D
