Mash on!

A TTL style brew, based upon Graham's calculation and my hop reserves, plus a little more aroma on the finish. I'm using homegrown WGV hops for Goldings and Bobek for Styrians, which I'm also adding at flameout to steep. Yeast is either S-04 or S-05 as I have plenty of both.

Here's the recipe anyway. Any comments during the evening very welcome as always.

I'll get some US-05 out of the freezer then.

Mash run off and first batch sparge in the boiler, just letting the final batch settle, then we're off.

Managed to get 25L at 1.043 safely in the fermenter. Nothing much of interest during the brew - Bobek's were quite powdery like leaf tea in parts, but smelled very nice indeed.

Used US-05 and a power drill paddle for first time.

Sounds like a winning combo
I've only used US-05 once before, and swore never again, due to it's lack of 'floccing' and just plain giving up
It wouldn't be me then, that has a 'strong' pale in the fv, getting the undivided attention of 05 as we speak......would it

I lost patience with US-05's lethargic glugging and gave the whole thing a good stir about an hour ago. Seems to be responding well. Smelly old stuff (in a good way)

Oodles of photos for this brewday are now up on the blog if you can handle any more shots of brown stuff in boilers!

When I first looked at the photo I thought, why has Fivetide put a cutting disc floating in the beer, then I thought it is some clever skimming device connected to a tap, then I realised the lid is on

Aha yes, it still had the circular swirl and slight head from the siphon. It's as still as mill pond now, although hopefully with better flavour... Will keg it at the end of the week.
