I do like a nice pint of Landlord myself Gareth, id be interested to find out what your brew turns out lik:thumb:

ps have you got around to use any of the Riwaka yet?

Going to dry hop this tonight with some EKG. It's a 12 L basic bitter brew which I'd like to give a little lift with the dry hop, nothing crazy. What's EKG like as a dry hop, anyone got experience?

Was thinking about 15g.

It's been in the fv about two weeks already and planning on bottling on the weekend.

Not sure myself but few recipes in GW book all day lob a few cones in to dry hop so crack on. My recent one I did 26g of first gold. Wish I'd of done more having now tasted the beer. Get a slight hit of them but more round of been better.

What size batch was that, bungle?

Was set up as 23. But had 21 in FV when dry hopped.

Went for 16 in the end. Got home slightly tipsy weds night (having hardly drunk anything) and forgot so did it this morning. Will bottle Sunday so they have time to leach their hoppy goodness.

Fv smells very nice, mostly malt as you'd expect given the recipe and low ibus

All bottled, 20 in total. Hadn't taken FG so did that, 1010. So 5.5%. Think I over pitched the yeast hence high attenuation. Lots of yeasty trub, but the beer itself was super bright. It's amazing how much clearer beer is after three weeks in the fv vs two, you could have drunk it now.

I (obviously) tasted the sample jar. Wow, nicer than I could have expected. No hint of the chalkiness my previous bitters have, though I'd be surprised if some of its not there in the final product, seeing as all my other bitters have had it.

I was concerned about the low bitterness, but it's actually fine. It's there, nothing overpowering, but it's not unduly sweet. The main thing was how much caramel I could taste, which again is probably down to the low ibus, but really smooth. Nice lightness from the dry hop without it being too hop forward. I think the dry hop might have rebalanced it a bit.

Anyway, obligatory pics below.

The sexy bottle is the Peroni special edition I was on about a while back!

Looking forward to sampling this one on a month.

Just cracked one of these...

It's not the greatest thing I've ever made and has the same taste that most of my bitters suffer from, which I find hard to describe, but is very distinct. The only thing I can put it down to is my very hard water. I'm now treating my water but don't plan on another bitter til probably around autumn so will have to wait and see if that helps.

It's not terrible though, a drinkable pint. Very clear, though it doesn't look it in the photo, nice creamy head, I got the carbonation as I would want it, and it's got some nice caramel tones in it. More malt and yeast than hoppy as the recipe would predict. No idea if it's remotely like landlord. I haven't had a landlord for donkeys years!

It's not remarkable though. Think I'll be giving a few to my dad who will drink pretty much anything.

Obligatory first pint photo:
