Hi I started a lager off a week ago it was 1052 after a week it's at 1038 does this sound like it progressing ok? I know that lager ferments slower than an ale would

It looks normal, if you pitched cold it can take a few days to get going.

Lager needs more yeast than ale , did you use a starter?

In any case you should consider raising the temp when it gets below 1020 as it will help the yeast finish up and clear some of the off flavors you can get when fermenting lager.

No i didn't use a starter it took about 2 days to get going in the sample there was a lot of yeast so it seems very healthy there's a lot of activity I'm gonna leave another week take a another reading then go from there

Lager fermentation can be very slow, just give it time! It will form a rocky head look something like from the moon and then head will drop into the lager. Time factors on O.G, type of yeast, pitching rate, temperature and of course how well Aerated wort!!...
