Hi

I've just cracked open a taster of my first design-a-brew kit- taste is really good and there is a light carbonation but no head. I moved it to cold condition last week after 7 days of conditioning at approx 20-22'c.

If I move it back into the warm will it get fizzier?

Cheers

howdy dave
if theres enough sugars available and the yeasts active yeh it should - i usually follow dave lines priming amounts of 1/2 teaspoon to the pint or obviously a bit less for a 500ml bottle or about 2oz to the beerkeg.
im still trying to work out whats caused me to have a lack of gas and condition in a 5 gal batch of newky brown which otherwise was perfect.Just done another batch so we'll see Did think of getting my hands on a secondhand tea chest (theyre lined with foil) and using that with a low grade heat source - something to slip over the top of a couple of crates or a beer keg to kick off the secondary ferment

hope that helps

just had another thought - the lack of a head might be caused by a bit of grease - it doesnt take much in contact with the brew.

cheers

Thanks

I'll bring a case back inside and see what happens.

Do you mean grease in the glass? Glass was pretty clean and the "test" has now been repeated twice!! :drink:

Think it must be a lack of time given to the secondary ferment.

Cheers

Good move - just bring it in for another week and then test it. If it is still a bit light on condition then leave for a dew more days again. It will come good given time. :thumb:

with reference to the lack of head retention.
I've seen me pour 2pints, one for me and one for Mrs, one has a lovely white hat and the other looses what little head it had quickly. I blame washing up liquid. could be wrong.

Thanks everyone

All 3 crates now back inside, all snug in the understairs cupboard.

I tasted a rogue bottle that I had previously kept inside, which was perfect.

Result

Agree about different bottles producing different results- The flat, cloudy one always seems to appear when guests turn up, but when I'm having a few sneaky ones on my own, they are always like creamy ice cream pints from the Boddingtons adverts!

Cant work out if thats a good or bad thing!!!
