Got diagnosed T2D last January. Cut out sugar vastly reduced my carbs (food) cut my beer drinking down to 2 litre (thur --> Sun) increased my fat and protein. Started drinking more spirits and red wine. Readings went from 90 --> 42 waist went from 32" --> 28" weight went from 12st 7 to 10st 7

2 500g metamorphin --> 1 500g

First six months I was starving now all is good.
Get drunk really quickly though

This is good advice. A work college of mine who really likes his beer was diagnosed with T2 diabetes but has overcome with with diet and exercise and he got fast response too. Not sure exactly what his diet is but I've heard/read many people who have moved over to a keto diet and had many positive benefits especially around things like skin issues such as eczema, and joint inflammation/arthritis. I've no health issues (that I'm aware of), but thinking about adjusting my diet because I probably have way too many carb/sugar and processed seed oils so makes sense to massively reduce as much as possible from your diet.

Some very valid points made in these post been reading them with great interest.
From my point of view as most people I was devistated in 2007 when I was told I was T2D and did the blood test & drink a glucose drink then re test after an hour or so. Not sure they do that now , but I found myself wandering round the supermarket reading label after label and was totally confused.
At the time I was working as at Train Driver Manager so being T2D was a big no no for my train driving days which came to a suddern end.

However on the up side I was sent on a full morning session course on the ins and outs of being a T2D what to eat what to drink.

First of all I was diet controlled but it seems like the medical staff's hands are forced to use tablets to control T2D
to the present day I take one metformin 1000mg tablet slow release a day
Drink home brew 4%-4.5%Friday / Saturday & Sundays just a couple of pints normally but other times do often crop up with birthdays Holidays etc
I'm now 9 stone 7 from 12+ take plenty of exercise and yes feel the cold more than ever and could, get drunk far to quick theses days
So lookout for the course on how to control T2D and ask questions
T2D is a Progressive disease you will be invited to have eye / feet / weight tests annually these appointments need to be done
remember your body is a temple look after it
Good Health and good luck

I want to thank you Rod for posting this thread, as it has prompted me to rethink some things.

My fingernail beds have been feeling a bit hot lately and i've been putting it down to possible psoriasis, but just taken a blood sugar reading on my husband's machine and got this! Horrified! I've only eaten a small bowl of multigrain cereal and an orange today, and that was about 4 hours ago.

I often do a test to make sure I'm ok, but this is the highest I've ever seen it.

Will keep a close eye on it and if it stays high will go see the GP.

Gonna get the husband to do one when he gets in and see what his reading is to compare.

This may help.

The numbers are different though depending on which site you go to.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases...are expressed,L ) is diagnosed as prediabetes
I think these values might be a little aggressive? We’ve always understood “normal” to be in the range 4-7.

From our experience (actually my wife’s), she slowly loses weight (1/2-1lb per week) if her blood sugar is in the 5’s, maintains weight in the 6’s, and slowly starts to put weight on in the 7’s. Her blood sugar is mostly in the range 6.5-6.7.

She is medication free and HBA1C is 38. I think 40-42 is the pre-diabetic range and over 42 is diabetic.
