Does anyone have any basic blueprints/plans? Im sure I can rustle one up from a bottle jack and wooden frame but thought a tried and tested design might be better.

I made one a couple of years ago. It is a bit ghetto but it works. I sort of followed some plans in a cider making book that I bought here
I used a car jack instead of the wheel thingy...
I don't have plans because I didn't really use any, I just knocked it together, it was fairly simple.

hi have a set of plans for one of these if any good to you :thumb:

Hi Tazuk

What wood have you used for this?

Sorry to hijack but I'd love to know how you made the tray at the bottom too.

Thanks

Leo

Yeah it took me a couple of hours to do 30kg of apples (below). I got me cider though

+1, cleaning it's the hard bit.. but it fairly chews through the apples.

I would like a hand-cranked as well though, with a manual scratter and manual press I could take them to the apples on the occasions that's a better option than bringing the apples to the scratter/press.

Look up Wyatt Wendell's scratter (I think that's his name) on youtube. Sorry, I'm no good with links, but this is an ingenious device. I plan to make one for next year, but for this year I've stuck to freezing apples 22lb. at a time, then thaw and press. The apples will be well soft, and you get a fairly good yield. If you have room in the freezer, it's a fairly efficient method.
