How long before it should start to ferment?

I'm pretty new to the homebrew scene.

I made up the ginger beer as per instructions on the can last night, approx 14 hours ago. It's in my cupboard at a maintained 23 degrees.

I did a cider kit last time and it was bubbling away by now but there is nothing happening at all with regards fermentation.

Can I do something to make sure the yeast has been activated ok?

Don' worry, I did beer and a cider and both weren't bubbling through the airlock, even though the fermentation was perfectly fine. I think you'll see krausen at the top soon.
I checked if the tank was airtight by increasing the pressure inside (blowing through the airlock), and after a few hours, the airlock was balanced again without any bubbles in the meantime ... so the air was using another way to get out

Albeit the air lock is still quiet but the Krausen has appeared at the top during the night, so we are up and running. Plus there's now a wonderful smell in my cupboard. Panic off as it appears fermentation is now under way!

My FV is very air leaky. So the best visual way to find out if Fermentation is happening is is to take hydrometer readings. I have a small batch of AG fermenting right now. And there has been no signs of visible fermentation, not even krausen. But I took a hydrometer reading and it's definitely doing its stuff.

Had the same with my FV with my previous brew. Though it had gone wrong at first as bubbler wasn't doing anything. Turned out that the lid is not an air tight seal. I "fix" this by wraping some wideish sellotape around the outside of the bucket/lid (also sealing the notch to remove the lid). I like to hear the bubbler doing its thing
