Hi all

What is a good lager home brew above 4 % vol. cheap. just to try out.

Any of the Wilko lagers will do it for you - Light Golden or Pilsner I've done. Wilko also do the Coopers Original Lager and that is a great bet and my suggestion.

Pick up 500g of Light DME whilst you are in the store and brew the kit with DME and 1 kg table sugar and it will be good to try it out if you leave it 2 weeks in the fermenter and then 2 weeks in the warm to carb up in the bottles (or keg) and then at least 2 weeks in the cool.

This will be good, cheap and reliable. Not brilliant, just at least as good as the mass produced and marketed stuff you get in a supermarket (better if you are are meticulous with cleaning your gear and patient).

Good luck with it, mate :drink:

Hi Pablo - Coopers original Lager - white can, green top, get if from Wilko, 500g LDME and 1 kg sugar.

As an alternative Pablo, although not strictly lager, the Coopers Mexican Cerveza is easy to make (it was my first brew) and reliable. Plus it tastes nice.
Tesco or Wilko regularly have it on offer but might cost £13/14 at other times

A good lager to try is Better Brew Czech Pilsner, just stick to the instructions.

Use brewing sugar as advised, normal brewing temperature (18c to 22c) ....excellent drink and not expensive.
