I was meant to be reusing my yeast today but because I wasn't happy with how much was harvested I decided to switch to a different brew. While I was on I knocked up a 1 pint starter with the harvested yeast, hopefully it'll ferment out and I can rinse it and make a bigger starter from it in a couple of weeks for my next brew.

As I've mentioned elswhere on the thread just rinse it with the spent wort once it's fermented out. Using water to rinse with is bad for the yeast

If you've still got the yeast you collected last time you could always step that up instead by putting it into 1L or 2L more of starter wort

That's the yeast I've put in this starter. It's going well with a nice krausen so there was definitely yeast in the stuff I harvested.

My next question, as I'm not planning on using the starter straight away do I just let it ferment fully for a few days and the rinse? Do I need to crash cool it or anything before rinsing?

Let the starter ferment out fully for 2-3 days. You can really only rinse it once it's fully fermented out anyway. You dont crash it before rinsing only after once you've seperated the trub from the yeast. Crashing it settles the yeast faster so you can measure how much you've got

Just to be clear. You harvested some trub. Put it in some starter wort then used the spent starter wort to rinse it but were unhappy with the amount of yeast you had collected so added some more starter wort to grow more yeast? Is this correct.

If it is you already rinsed it once so don't need to rinse it again. Just let it ferment out and then put it in your fridge until your ready to use it.

Yep, that's right. Will the new "beer" not have produced any trub that needs rinsing off?

The DME will have produce some trub (not much compared to the trub from an AG brew) but if your measuring at 1.2bl cells/ml this is taken into account at 40%-60% trub to yeast
