Hi,

I am going to lose my brewing virginity today. I've got a standard fermenting vessel with a lid which came in a standard starter kit. I am brewing better brew Czech pilsner. Does my kit require an airlock because the kit didn't come with one.

Cheers peeps

NOOOOOO you don't need an airlock.

I've never used one. I just put cling film on the top. I sanitise my cling film using star san no rinse sanitiser. I guess you don't have starsan? tbh when I first started putting cling film on the top of my FV I never bothered to sanitise it and never had an issue. If you have enough head room in the FV so the krausen doesn't touch it you should be ok

The only reason I asked was because if there is, bung it up with bluetack or some such to stop fruit flies getting in, rest the lid on the top and let it do its thing. Plenty of folk do it.

Just checked, it's a 30L and not 25l. Thanks for your replies, I'll go with resting the lid on top because it requires the least effort lol
