Heat wave.. Are You ready?

Unusual I know, but have been waiting months for a heatwave to test my new chiller.....now it might be here in the UK

If it goes on for 4 months are you ready?

Yep, beer is chilled. It is important to stay hydrated when it's hot.

Might need to get the kids pool up this weekend. Was invaluable for a cooling lunchtime dip when WFH in last years 2 weeks of silly heat.

If you store bottled beer in the garage or shed like I do, get them into the house, you might be surprised how hot they can get: heat forces CO2 out of the beer and can result in exploding bottles, either that or it re-starts the yeast. Get a few go bang every few years unless I bring them into the relatively-cool house.

I came back from holiday last year when it was up in the high 30s and found two bottles of my fizzy hefeweizen had exploded. Fortunately, I don't have anything that carbonated at the moment, and it won't be getting into the high 30s this time

I managed to survive last years heatwave where it was in the high 20's in my garage so hopefully will be OK this year. Though I'm thinking about putting some insulation in the roof space of my garage as there currently is none. Other issue are the external walls are only single skin brick so act like a really efficient radiator but not much I can do there unless I insulate the walls too.

I have 40 litres of Imperial Stout I'm ageing in there so might have to think about re-locating those.

Insulating the walls would really make a difference. Alternatively, and this is not a joke, find a dry, sheltered spot in the shade and dig a hole to keep your beer in. Cover with a sheet of marine ply and soil or straw bales or whatever you can lay your hands on. No I'm not joking.

Must have been high 20's where I've been working today, no escape from the sun on the scaffold high up on a gable end.
Just about tolerable but when I'm relaxing at home I like to be able to get in some shade.
Not good for the dogs either so late walks for the next few days.

I've a few ice packs that came free with wet yeast ready and raring to go into the shorts.

It needs to get a bit hotter that 30c before you need ice packs in your shorts.

it needs to just be a tad warmer indoors for my yearly kviek brew. 25-27c in the house yesterday. I have a belgian wit in the fv that is due for bottling.
