I know it's not beer but I rather like seedlip with ice or tonic. It's not alcoholic but personally I like it if it's a week night and joining others for a drink. It's an acquired taste though so I suggest ordering it in a pub first since it's quite expensive stuff.

I do really enjoy a Seedlip. It's one of my favourite non-alcoholic tiples :smallcheers:

I drink most days by that i mean 2 0r 3 glasses some pints some halfs depends on the mood, both my kids have asked me why i said the same reason you drink everyday i got puzzled looks they drink lots of fizzy pop the zero sugar kind and energy drinks, i never wake up feeling like i should slow down never get a hang over i just live a normal life when that stops i will stop drinking, to all the chief medical officers of this country i say try it and get a life :beer1:

@Clint "Do as I say rather than as I do"? I noticed my Bourbon intake went up in lockdown, I bought a couple early on and then got given 3 bottles by various people for my birthday in May and by August there was only a third left in one bottle - that's usually about 2 year's consumption for me. It's tailed off now that I need empty beer bottles for homebrew, but the wife's G&T consumption has gone up as I will also be needing 1l PET bottles - no no, I'm sure it's ok for you to have another, dear. :^)

On a serious point!

The only question you have to ask youself is

Is alcohol costing me more than money?

If so, it is time to give away all your alcohol

I am in derbyshire, dibbs on central england, I'll collect.

Whilst it is old school and not probably appreciated, the old addage that everything must be enjoyed in moderation is totaltly applicable to beer

Comes down to personal choices I guess but no harm in being made aware of the fact that drinking a lot can be detrimental to your overall health. We could all eat a McDonalds for dinner six nights a week and not wake up the next day feeling any worse for it but long term I think everyone would acknowledge that it would not be very good for your insides. Beer is exactly the same, you can drink four pints each night of the week and not wake up with a hangover which might make your conscience feel ok but in reality you would be having at least four times more alcohol that what is recommended and most likely suffer some long term damage.

This site is quite useful/salutary!

https://alcoholchange.org.uk/alcohol-facts/interactive-tools/unit-calculator
it came as a shock that the guidance is 14 units per WEEK, not per DAY😁

seriously, though, 14 units isn’t much at all. Even with four dry days per week, it’s trivial to exceed that. Three pints for three nights is about 15 units.

The 14 units is a made up number - I have previously read quite a lot of the background to how this was determined/ the minutes of the meetings etc. Based on my own reading into the subject about 30 units a week puts most people on the same morbidity curve as a teetotaller.

If you want to live forever, it's 7% of calories from alcohol. 85% from veg, fruit and grains. Rest from fish and lean meats avoid oil and seeds

And be very aware that alcohol is pure calories so 7% is not a lot.

Based on studies of longest lived people in japan

Maybe I should do the sake wine and not rely on my crab boiler

I might be unpopular saying this but I did hear a theory that the 14 units a week comes from research that suggested that the health risks were almost zero from consuming that amount (or under) but more importantly the chances of developing an alcohol addiction were also almost zero. So if its 14, 21 or even 30 units a week you consume in a week you can still live a very healthy life but we have to accept when applied to the nation the more units we drink the more likely we are to develop an addiction to alcohol.

If the recommended weekly intake was changed to 21 you can imagine how many more people would drift into the 30-50 units a week and go on to have an addiction. We all enjoy what we brew and I will always continue to do so (and generally above the 14 units a week) but beer is something we must respect and enjoy in moderation

Always important to drink moderately. Remain in control.
AVOID daily drinking. Drink in halves.

I drink no more than 4 pints a week. In halves. If i go to a micro brewery/tap. Always halves.

Only at special events would i consume more than the above.

Look after yourselves folks. 🍻👍💪😙

Well i have lived a life of many phases the poor diet of the 50s and 60s loads and loads of saturated fat lots and lots of beer, i steer well clear of anything low fat its not healthy if a producer of food reduces fat content they put back stuff that worse, i remember when everybody fell hook line and sinker for margerine feckin hell its turkey food but it killed the turkeys :laugh8: so they modified it and called it a better alternative to butter i believe its one monacule away from being paint think i will stick to lurpak, anyway i am 67 now and i am doing ok and will carry on till the day i pop my clog now were is my glass i need a beer athumb..
