hi the bottles at my local hbs are £14.95 for 24 500ml but from asda u can get 12 500ml sparkling water green bottles for £3 could i use these instead

Green bottles are fine as long as you can condition and store in total darkness, if you can't do that you risk skunking your finished beer, (Light makes hop compounds change into the same compond a skunk releases), therefore I would personaly go with the brown bottles.

UP

if in a light tight box then definatly otherwise so long as you have no light in cupoard or much gets to the bottles everytime you open the door.
carboard box best bet

Contact your local micro brewery. I did and they were happy to donate bottles (used).

I came away with just over 70 with the promise of more if i wanted them.

I got hold of a load of newcastle brown bottles (over 200) and bottle all my brews in these, i always bottle and box up in dark cardborad boxes and tape up with parcel tape, never had a problem as they go in a cupboard too  Plus its easier bottling up in clear bottles then dark as you can see what your doing!!! I collect brown bottles wherever I can from friends and my own that I buy and try to use these for higher % brews for longer storage :drink:

Although I prefer to bottle in glass, I have found it cheaper and a little more convenient to use PET pop bottles of various sizes.

Fair enough, but PETs just make your brew appear cheapy too just my opinion :thumb:

PET's seem just the right size for a nights supping for me and I like stouts conditioned in them over 500ml bottles
