Anyone got a recipe for this?

Have developed a taste for this over the weekend and wouldn't mind having a bash

I take it you've dusted your google-fu off and had a mooch about 'tinterweb for clone reciepes?

It seems Guinness has gone back into it's history for this one but according to my Stout and Porter book you need to be looking at what we now know as 'Foreign Extra Stout' reciepes as "It started life as a porter, the first west indian porter being brewed in 1801, using only pale and brown malts. As nomencleture changed and black malt was introduced to the brewing process West India Porter morphed into Double Stout Foreign nad then Foreign Extra Stout"

Edit: My Google Fu is strong today. Dug up this thread from HBT. Take particular note of the links to the Barclay Perkins blog as they specialise in re-creating historic beer styles

I did have a reet old search but didn't find those little beauties. Thank you very much! Interesting to see folk on that forum unconvinced by that recipe as it would have an OG of 1.079, tbh that sounds about right as its 6% ABV. Yes there's a large amount of brown malt, prob not all would be fermented, which also makes sense as its a very sweet drink

Have a look at brewing tv on you tube episode 55 (all about stout) I brewed the single stout porter back in feb and its quite similar to guiness west indies porter :thumb:

Am off work for the rest of this week so am going to be trying my hand at this recipe tomorrow!

West India Porter

9lb Maris Otter
4.6lb Crisp Brown Malt
1lb Victory Malt
1lb Crisp Chocolate Malt

.9 oz Columbus at 70min
.35oz Columbus at 40min
1oz Willamette at 0min
1oz E. Kent Goldings at 0min

WLP 002 (Wyeast 1028)

Ive just tried a bottle of the Guinness foreign extra stout and I now reckon that the recipe above is for that rather than the west indies porter. They're slightly different, the former being smokier in my opinion, presumably die to the large amount of brown malt

My attempt was similar to the FES except it was thinner (I should have maybe mashed at a higher temp) but everyone who tried it enjoyed it, it's probably been my best brew so far
