Last years hops are all dead, not surprised really given where we live and the bad weather, started to grow a little then succumbed to mildew, leaves turned balck.

So I thought I would have one last go, just bought the following from A-plus hops

Wye Challenger Bare Root Hop Plant
WGV Bare Root Hop Plant
Progress Bare Root Hop Plant
Phoenix Bare Root Hop Plant

Three are resistent to downy mildew and one is resistant to powdery mildew, can't seem to find a strain resistent to both and useful for brewing. Lets hope we get a summer this year.

Doh! not dead after all - shoots coming through

I could only find places for Pheonix and Wye challenger so if anybody is interested in WGV and Progress FOC and are willing to travel up towards Todmorden/Hebden Bridge way let me know. I'm going away for the weekend so will stick them in a bucket of soil for now, back on Sunday afternoon/evening and available Monday.

Cheers
Andy

Still nothing from my newly planted roots (in East Anglia) :wha:

It is warming up now, so I would expect something soon!

My potted Cascade is coming on well. Seems the pot warms up quicker than the bines in the ground.

My Fuggles has sprouted! Hooray! Nothing yesterday, 2" high today!

Just hope the EKG and Challenger do the same soon.

Have to cut mine back already have about 12 shoots some over two foot, there was nothing weekend before last.

Visited my parents in Wales, my Ahtnum, Challenger and Fuggles are all sprouting. They are all a really deep green, unlike the light green of my staffs cascade ? Must be the "terroir"!

Hopefully get a decent crop of Ahtnum for a wet hopped pale ale....

How did you manage to get these?

Got them last year from Willinghams doesn't look like they are doing them this year. Hopefully when it's mature I can split the rhizome and spread the love!

I've not yet grown enough hops to try it but in basically means picking hops and throwing them straight in the boil without drying them first. Supposed to give really nice aromas. Check our Surly Beer co "Wet" their wet hopped IPA. T

Decided to join the hop growing community this year with a Prima Donna (First Gold) rhizome from EssentiallyHops. Planted in early February and now showing signs of growth.

I guess the sooner you pot it the better, keeping it wrapped in wet moss or news paper will probably help preserve it while at TST.
