Grape juice

hi all ....


Ages ago I could walk into lidi and buy red/white grape juice by the case no issues . With my return to home brewing I am struggling to find any stocked at lidi or Aldi . Is this a regional thing or are they just cutting back on something they are not selling much of ? . Also what is it with the price of grape juice nowadays , it’s getting expensive . Any tips for getting it cheap locally ?

White grape juice went awol a few years ago red is readily available in the big supermarkets where we live, have a look at this thread -

None of our Aldi or Lidl stock it anymore, I can get red GJ from Asda in the chiller tho @£1.20 so does me fine. I've just bought some white grape powder which I'm trying out at the moment

An online search found 5l of white grape juice concentrate for £35 plus £5 delivery.

It is generally understood that in winemaking metabisulphite inhibits bacteria and yeast growth so I wouldn't use it there are lots of juices out there with no preservative.

2.50 for a bit more than a pint, there must be better stuff.
Accidentally I looked for jerrycans of grape juice (to get the missus interested in the whole fermenting business) and white grape juice was in the price range of £2 the liter. Not organic but that's overrated anyway for fruit.

I'm with Chippy there's plenty of juices out there that make a very nice drink, I don't think grapes are all they're made out to be...lol

If you want to make a grape based drink you may as well just by a kit these days as the juice is so expensive.

On Saturday I nipped into a shop for, and run by, Eastern Europeans. It's good for cheap and plentiful spices. Whilst there I noticed some juice cartons with pics of bunches of white grapes on them. All the text in Polish or Romanian or whatever. Couldn't make sense of it and neither could the few other customers I asked. Didn't fancy a language war with the assistants either but I came away with the word 'winigrona' in my head. Google says it means 'grape'. But that could mean a grape juice drink, or pure grape juice. At £1.09 for a litre, this could be our answer to Asda failing to stock white grape juice for the last few years. Anyone able to shed some light on it? If not I'll get a couple of cartons whereupon I can translate the text at leisure, at home, and report back.

I'll take a look next time I visit my polish shop for my lowizc, never thought of them having grape juice.
