Hello all
I've just received my Malt Miller order and realised I've ordered crushed golden naked oats...to be included in my Christmas stout. Previously I've just bunged in porridge oats. Can I use these?
Looking on Web it seems these are a type of crystal but can be used in oat stouts giving a sweet nutty taste as well as the silky mouthfeel.

Yes I crush my GNO.
I don't think they have been gelatinised like flaked / porridge oats. They still gum up your mash. You could gelatinise ie bring oats to a simmer in some of your mash water on stove for about ten minutes. Then add to mash tun and dough in as usual. They have a nice flavour.

They sound perfect for a stout. Fuller's use them in their Imperial Stout.
If you are planning a brew with a fair amount of oats or adjuncts including oats, consider Big O malted oats, these have husks on so help with the flow and have a great flavour and some diastatic power.
Gladfield make them not sure who else does.

What is a good crush gap for them (I have 2-roller million)? First time crushing them myself and I see a lot of variance for sizes in internet searches. Mostly all "finer than your usual crush".
