Has anyone used the 5.2 stabiliser? I still done understand water treatment as well as I need to and have other things to focus on for a little while yet and was wondering if this would be a good way to get a quick improvement until I understand things a bit better.

Personally I would avoid 5.2 stabiliser. A better investment would be a Salifert alkalinity test kit because once you've got your alkalinity sorted the mash pH will look after itself. Have a look at Bru'n Water which is free water treatment software, and read the water knowledge page. Water treatment doesn't have to be complicated, it's much simpler than you think.

It will cost you £27 but in my mind, the simplest option is to send a sample to murphy and son via brew.uk, they tell you everything you need to know (apart from sodium content) and advise what carbonate reduction and or salt additions you need for bitters/pales, stouts/porters or lagers

I do intend to do that but I'll probably be moving house before the end of the year so don't want to spend the money twice.
