An after thought!!
I'll not use the wort chiller!!! No matter how hard I clean it..it's best bein in a hot mash...and I Haven't any big nuff pots to sterilise it proper!!
TBH the wort chiller is going to obsolete when my grainfather arrives lol
At least 23l went from 22.2C to 15C in 5.5 mins...me its works..I've got a back up anyways.
I'll tell you when brew day is, can't remember our lasses days off.
Too late TBH have to go for a new house phone :-)

Hold the press!
Just wake up! And can't to sleep! Lol
A problem was niggling me is the temp for the lager fermentation...15C and i tried all sorts..so my pal has a old upright freezer so with one of my stc 1000 a fan and tinkering I might get it spot on...
But the bad point is I can't put other beers in...lol so it'll be only for the lager..my beers can sit in my room temp..then when lager finished...two batches of stout going in...
So lager brew day is put on hold for now!!!

Right I'm not getting the ferm chamber now...
But what's the best yeast for increased temps? About14 up to 16C
Doing it in the outhouse..averaging 13-14C
Any help?
It will be done about a weeks time.

Just use the same yeast. Lager yeast can ferment all the way up to the same temps as ale yeast, it just wont be as clean. Or you could use nottingham ale (wilko ale) yeast as it ferments down to 14C

Well the lager has been bubbly nicely for a few days, 15C.
Using the saflager 23 & California yeast time will tell!
The 23 is a bottom feeder, don't know about the other one.
All good so far.

Even today the Krausen is starting to callase..but the bubbler is still bubbling one every second...liking this..even though it a kit..lol
Went down to 14.5C not change...

Reading 1.012
Going to read tomorrow and decide what to do...rack and put it in a warmer room for a few days...then final reading and prime bottle it for a few weeks then lager it til Xmas time..?? What u think?

Looking good, Manx. I am in the same boat right now with my AG lager. I've just hit the same gravity using Saflager 23 and have moved it into the house today to warm up from about 10C.

I'll probably keg it and leave it in the fridge as cold as possible for a few weeks under CO2 pressure. The rest I'll bottle and leave in the shed to age.

Keep us posted as to how it goes!

Lucky the temp rose to 16.5 next to the FV.. :-(
I've been able to keep it 15C til now.
The anbuant temp was 20.4C
Mind that with the door to the kitchen open...!!
I've always got the window n shut the door to get it colder.. lol

Nice one Joey
Unless I get my ferm chamber set up and able to get the temp spot on, it's hope and prey lol.
Like I said ages ago it's the first time I'm ova 30 odd years I've made lager!
Looking back on beers I've made I've only had one that I wasn't right with! The latest milk choc stout!!! Rest of it went ok so I must of done something right!
In the 80's we were making 3 x 40 pints of nut brown ale kits..lol good old skint options when I wasn't earning much!! Mind they dint get much ageing coz we were supping like lunatics lol

This one has just gone in the keg with a rather large dose of CO2. I'm planning on leaving it for a few weeks and seeing how it is. The sample jar tasted absolutely great and I'm hoping that the sulfur/egg smell has dissipated now.

Only managed two bottles before I started hitting the trub!
