I fear I may be asking my learned brewers a foolish question - but if I use finings to clear my beer, will there be sufficient residual yeast to carbonate when bottling

Yes there will do not worry just do your usual carbonation regime it will be ok and its not a silly question as you would think it would drop all the yeast out of suspension but no its ok there will be enough left to carbonate any sugars you add

Also, you are unlikely to really need finings. Some time in the keg or bottle and most of the stuff will fall out. If you can cold crash before bottling you will remove loads, but even if not, just some time in the bottle in the cold will do. I've not used finings for ages and my brews are pretty damn clear.
