Hi everyone and hope you accept this request from a newbie. I am aiming t start shortly on a hobby of making my own wine and beer, and i am about to construct a fermentation cabinet which will a insulated and heated lower half and storage upper half. I have noticed from various sections on this forum that a lot of people on here use a reconstituted fridge. Would i need this instead of a wooden cabinet. I am not going to be doing larger just wine beer and cider. Any hints would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance
peter

Would you need the storage temperature controlled as well?

If you can see by the other fridge thread you just need an Inkbird and a fridge. An aquarium heater also helps.

A tall larder fridge is better suitable than an under counter fridge and don't be getting a fridge with those small freezers as it just wastes space.

A fridge is not a requisite btw (although it will make a great improvement), if you've never brewed before you can still do a great ale, wine or cider without one.

Try a brew first before you go expending on a fridge.

a brewfridge is worth the investment imho especially in spring summer and autumn when for the majority of the time you will want the brews to be fermenting at lower than ambient peak temps.

i dont know about wines so much but for beers you cant beat a brewfridge as most yeasts will ferment without any off flavours at slightly lower than most ambient indoor peak temps for most of the year.

start scouring your local freecycle site..

....or,just stalk your local council waste facility entrance for someone about to dump 1.That`s what I did:)

There's also the option of using a cool brewing bag (link: http://www.geterbrewed.com/cool-brewing-bag/ don't forget the forum members discount!)

I've not got the room for a brew fridge so went for one of these. Just chuck some bottles of frozen water in every 24 h and it keeps temps nice and low. Only used mine once as of yet, but during the summer brief heat wave, it behaved enough to let me brew a nice hoppy IPA at ~16-18C when room temps were well into the mid/upper 20s

@MyQul knows much more about this kit (it's his fault I've got one :) )
