I want to move on from kits but don't have the room or time at the minute for all grain.

I am thinking of converting an FV into a boiler with a hop strainer and making an immersion chiller and having a go at an extract recipe.

As all the kits Iv done have been ales and stouts, I would like to brew a lager or Pilsner and use a fridge to Lager it properly with the appropriate yeats.

Would a malt extract brew produce decent results for a Pils if lagerd properly?

Certainly does . . . I fing the Muntons Extra Light DME makes a great base for a Pils . . . Did a nice extract Bitburger Clone one year . . . . Cracking beer . . . which was fermented with s23 at about 15C . . . and was the last lager I brewed indoors . . . . Talk about a sulphur producer

2700g Extra Light DME

For 90 minutes boil

20g Northern Brewer Hops
20g Perle Hops

Last 15 Minutes of Boil

10g Hallertau (Mittelfruh)

I think it's the Perle hops that really make this one.

I love Bitburger! They have it in Aldi sometimes :) .

When you say the recipe above was the last Lager you brewed it indoors, did you do it under temperature control or what? And how have you brewed lager since? Outdoors in the winter :wha: ?. Iv heard of this. I could perhaps try this before buying a fridge and a thermostat...............

It all sounds reasonably achievable that! ! Has given me the motivation to move up to extract  .

If I move onto all grain the boiler and chiller can be used for that as well so Iv lost nothing in giving it a go.

Cheers.

2700g Extra Light DME

Just had a look on hop and grape to cost this brew up....

500g bag of DME - £3.69

So you would need 6 of these to get 2.7kg....That's £22.14.

So £22 without buying the hops! Can the DME be sourced a lot cheaper than this or is extract brewing a fair bit more expensive that kit brewing? A kit comes in around £15 inc beer enhancer from my LHBS or Wilko's. £20ish for a 2 can kit....

Cheers.
