i'm sad to say my first extract attempt has been a failure i think this has mainly been my shoddy attempt at sterilizing as i could still smell mold from a previous batch in the bucket despite sterilizing for 12hrs. the batch has been stuck on 1.029 for a fortnight an during that time i fear it also sat on the sediment for too long as the taste sample was bitter sour taste. to top it all off i barreled anyway an woke to hear a popping sound of air escaping from top tap which was slowly dripping over night.

so alot to learn from this its the first time i have had to waste a batch :(

in the sediment i did notice there was dust from the grain is this normal or have i used a nylon bag that is too course an could of added to failure list?

if ur sure u could smell mold m8 then maybe fill it and boil it before u do anything else with it ..... sad news though :(

A fortnight isn't too long to leave something in an FV either. If you could smell mold, then that's your problem sadly :(

Good luck, and make sure to scrub the HELL out of that FV to kill that mold :-P :thumb:

na chucked the bucket in the local tip i have another spare anyway i only brew on batch at a time with exeption to 5lt demijon projects :D

what annoys me the most is i dont know where the mould was not hard to find green lumps on a white bucket i scowered the thing in VWP including the lid so god knows why there was still a mould smell i usually worry when i can still clorine after the 3rd flush through
