I have never understood why everyone was getting so agitated about the legal immigrants from the EU when the UK has a much more massive problem with illegal immigrants; and now justification has been delivered by (of all sources) today's Daily Wail with the headline:

"Over one million illegal immigrants are in Britain:
Former Home Office chief admits huge numbers live in the UK 'under the radar' and many will never be sent home."

At last! All this time they've been banging on about legal EU immigrants and now that the figure of illegal immigrants has reached "over a million", they suddenly choose to report the fact! The mind boggles!

Also, because the UK is an island (with the closest land being 22 miles away) it should have been easy for the Government to prevent these illegal immigrants from entering the country; even if it meant stopping and searching every car, van, lorry, container and boat that entered the country.

But no! In the names of "austerity" and "modernisation" the government have frigged around with the Border Control Agency at the country's ports and airports so badly that the resulting mess is an absolute farce! Add on to that the Brexit situation whereby the UK Passport Control has been moved from the continent back into the UK and there is no wonder that the expected illegal immigration rate is expected to be running at over 150,000 immigrants a year in the future.

Here's a great statistic reported as gospel truth by the Daily Wail:

"Unauthorised migrant population in Britain during 2001 estimated at 430,000."

So, without any bias or favouritism the Daily Wail is reporting that the current Tory government has allowed somewhere in the region of 570,000 illegal immigrants into this country since they came into power!

Things have to change!:gulp:

Sine Dutto said he was an "old fashioned socialist" I have been trying to work out how I would define my views and I think i'm an economic liberal (nothing like the lib dems) with some exceptions.

and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few

That is certainly a noble sentiment. I thought Wealth is the abundance of valuable resources or valuable material possessions.(Thank you wiki...) As there is only so much wealth like a tub of butter the more you spread it the less there is for each person who receives it. Now when MANY becomes a big big number no-one would have wealth. If they said we'd like to re-distribute Wealth more fairly than it is now, but we can't honestly promise everybody some, because the tub of butter isn't that big to do so it would be more honest. So who's going to decide how Many is Many?

Whats he means buy power isn't clear but the other 2 are in contradiction. Liberalism gives people equality of opportunity (to fail or succeed financially) while socialism denies it entirely and offers only equality of outcome (by spreading wealth to the many) denying opportunity of financial success (or failure) based on merit, effort or luck.

Amazing how quickly these threads move.... I am not saying that every single human being seeking asylum is going to be able to on our beautiful little island. However, if ALL countries who are in a position (grey area I know) to support Asylum did so then we wouldn’t need this thread at all. There are always going to be wars and always going to be poverty, trying to be human about making a dent in it shouldn’t be stopped because it means the part of land we were lucky enough to be born on might be inhabited by someone with different beliefs. I know this is “pie in the sky” or a “head in the clouds” approach, but it’s easier for me to think we should work towards instead of denying someone entry.

What?! Come round my drum and we'll listen to Sheik Yerbouti over a few pints, then say that again.

Sheik has some great songs: Yo Mama, Dancin' Fool, Bobby Brown, all classics. I may have to give that a listen today actually...

I wasn't referring to migration or asylum per se. I was pondering how to have a more equitable spread of wealth or rather happiness to ensure that people of all cultures and beliefs feel comfortable with their circumstances rather than being forced into terrible choices they should not have to make. There are lot of 'pie in the sky' ideals from politicians who promise a solution but only deliver words. You cannot give everyone wealth.

Coco Chanel (she of the perfume and fashion designs) is reported to have said ...

"There are people who have money, and there are people who are rich."

... which just about sums up my own philosophy on life. i.e. "Money" does not equal "Wealth"!:gulp:

Most people would describe the PM as wealthy whereas a tramp would not be. I do know Dutto from your point of view the tramp I speak about is wealthier. I'd just use the term happiness as wealth to many people is luxury material possessions and tons of cash.

I just wonder how many are aware of what's going on in Sweden.

I doubt it. I presume that you are referring to the recent BBC News report which pointed out the intrinsic modesty of Swedish business success. I particularly liked the fact that any entrepreneur may fail ...

... "And for those whose ideas don't take flight, there is a strong social welfare net to set them back on their feet."

Strong social welfare net? Ha! There are at least two words in that quote that will get this government grinding their teeth; and the rest of the report would amount to heresy for many of the them!:gulp:

No its what the bastion of bullsit are not reporting on.

All people have the ability to:
Live
Love
Eat
Sleep
Survive

We are all the same, from every culture, every nation because at the end of the day, its all constantly changing anyway. Our "British" values would have been very different 60-70 years ago when Alan Turing was being homosexual acts. I am pretty sure that the culture at the time weren't horrified by this... however our culture now would be.

There are nations around the world that you look at that could support themselves far better however (and sometimes this is due to involvement from the west) the governments in those countries don't support their own people.

I think the majority of people on the earth genuinely would tolerate other people. Money, greed and envy then put a straight on those relationships.

Brexit to my mind has tried to move back Britain rather than (which could be very positive) using it as an opportunity to build something better for the world (not just Britain).

At the end of the day, what ever happens, where ever I am, in whatever Mad Max style world we are living in, I will keep smiling, keep laughing with friends, keep cooking, eating and drinking. Give me a surfboard and I will be happy, because waves aren't fussy about who rides them.

You forgot brewing surely

Im noticing at my place of work lots of foriegn temps not understanding much english.
And this is having detrimental effects on the business, where loss of comunication is causing errors.
So maybe it wouldnt be a bad thing to only have people with slightly more clearer skilled language ability coming here. If thats what he was saying.
It does get tiring too with converstions leading to 'which way to the beach?' in loud voices when all you were asking was 'how was your weekend?'

So what point are you making?

On Wednesday I had a new lens put in my left eye.

The pre-operation inspection was carried out by Mr. Khan and the operation itself was carried out by Mr. Ahmed: both of whom are from Lahore in Pakistan. My point was that the statement made by Boris ...

".... that opening the UK to the “best and brightest” migrants from around the world, and not just the EU, would help the country."

... was yet another straightforward lie!

We are in the EU and we already have some of the "best and brightest" migrants from around the world, so leaving the EU will in no way change our ability to attract these people to the UK.

However, if the UK economy keeps on collapsing our home-grown talent will flee the country for better jobs abroad and we may very well be unable to pay for the "best and brightest" migrants to come here to replace them.

I will be very sorry when the UK permanently leaves us :(.
Such a hassle when I want to visit the UK.
I'm glad I can go the UK for an internship now that it is still possible.
