England has a serious pool of talent to pick from. I just wish big jack Charlton was about to fabricate a few grannies to pick up the ones who didn't make the squad for Ireland 😉

I watched the (pretty awful) friendly with Austria the other week with a friend, and we both said Saka was the only one on the pitch who really staked a claim to a first-team place. He was very good tonight.

I hope I am proved wrong but having watched the game I am convinced we are not going to win this.

Eriksson and Capello.
Capello actually has the highest win percentage of any England manager in history. He’ll be remembered for ignoring in form players who didn’t play for (in his mind) “big clubs”, sticking with older players (oldest average squad age at the 2010 WC IIRC), and for the 2010 thrashing by the Germans though.

Promising first half. Patchy second half. Job done. We will need to step up a gear next week, but we might just do that.
saka a revelation
I didn’t think we were that great first half either, Saka and the goal aside. All 3 games the midfield has looked very ponderous (like watching Sunderland again) - that definitely improved when Henderson came on and I hope he’s fit to start next week.

It's just good to be through to the knockout stage, where each game counts, and there aren't ' best third place goes through' rules that I clearly don't understand (see my comments about Wales earlier :laugh8: )

All we can do now is just take each game as it comes.

Whats with this back passing all the time breaking down the runners who must get exhausted making runs for it to square across your goal is a no no be passed back, that went out with Ramsey which did work in its day but it just puts you at risk as your goal keeper is out of position too mant times bringing the ball out plus passing across your goal is a no no (thats what I was taught when I played)it just takes a miskick or slip and they are directly goalward bound.
Also playing Phillips at defence virtually sweeping - he is a playmaker thats why the attack is not getting the service

Yes, the negative play has been very frustrating from England. But, the brief was that we make it through to the next stages and with the best third place option it meant you stand a good chance of doing so with three draws so the main thing was not to lose a game.
Im hoping it will be different now the brief has changed and you need to win to progress.
