Exactly. How many times will England managers be scapegoated before the fans realise it's the boys on the park that are just not all they are cracked up to be.

5 of them played in the the champions league final, add to that Kane who is about to be sold for 100 mill, and talk of Grealish for around the same figure, the argument the players are not good enough doesn’t wash.

But yes whoever the manager is doesn’t seem to make a difference and something strange happens when they put that england shirt on. No chemistry. been like that for as long as I remember. Yet I start every game with the hope this is where it all clicks.

Since Alf Ramsey was sacked England have had 13 managers all with their own systems so it's not surprising we keep failing. Other teams like Germany,Italy, Holland and France know their best system and pick players to suit it. We don't and then play great players out of position ie Scholes, Gerrard, etc. Foden has been played as a right winger and dribbling is not his game. Southgate did well with a back 5 in Russia but then changed it as he doesn't know his best formation. There's nothing wrong with the players it's just square pegs in round holes. My team United had a way of playing under SAF but when he retired the next 3 managers had their own style but without the right players to make it work. OGS has gone back to SAF way of playing with some success but it takes time.

His dad is a Celtic fan so that's ok but Scotland never shirt never. I've offered to buy him an England shirt with number 6 Moore on it .
It’s the opposite in our house - kids can support Scotland if they want (born here, and their mother’s side is all Scottish) but they must support Sunderland.

My daughter said she wants England to win because I do so maybe I’ll have one on my side after all! I think the fact my in laws aren’t as interested in football as my dad and I are probably helps.

Kane doesn't look himself at all very poor in both games so far. Foden was hyped but has made no impact at all. And Stirling is in really poor form. For the next game Grealish and Rashford should start.
Foden and Sterling were the only players that actually tried to make anything happen against Scotland IMO.

Midfield is where the problem lies - that Rice/Phillips/Mount combo doesn’t work for me.

I’d switch to a 4-2-3-1 play Henderson (as long as he’s fit) and Bellingham in midfield behind any 3 of Foden, Sterling, Sancho and Grealish.

It takes a good manager to get the best out of 11 players who do not regularly play together i don't think Southgate is the man for the job and never did.

Kind of agree but no one since Hodle has got close in terms of cohesion. Erikson had limited success but we never achieved potential under him. Everyone else has been a disaster.

Italy didn’t qualify for World Cup but Mancini has build a great team without spectacular players very quickly.

I definitely wouldn't compare OGS to Ferguson. OGS can be very negative, he regularly plays two holding midfielder's. Even against the so called weaker teams. Plus it takes him to long to try and change a game with subs or formation. I really think he's a poor manager but his face fitted after José got sacked.
This is not a complaint on my part I actually love it 😎😎 as I sit here in my Liverpool jersey 😃

The difference when they're playing for their clubs is that they're surrounded by talent from elsewhere. Your second part is part of the problem. English players are massively overhyped. Grealish is a good player but there are about a dozen bon-English players I'd have before him.

I think it's a bit much to expect international sides to play with the same fluency as a club side. All these complaints about England coaching, I'm sure they are echoed in other countries too. France, Germany, Belgium, many of the top sides don'r always look so impressive, and are criticised by their own fans too. England don't look world-beaters, but we have some very talented young players now, better than for some years.

if they were overhyped they wouldn’t get picked for champions league finals, or sellfor 100 mill.there is genuine talent there it’s just getting to gel.the italy team is largely built from average seria a teams, no superstars but they gel perfectly.

With england the sum is always less than the parts.

As usual I wil be watching tonight in anticipation, expecting that tonight will be the new dawn. I never learn.

It's always about the manager he the one who decides the formation, the tactics, picks the team, is the motivator and makes changes if plan A isn't working. We currently have a really good set of players who are capable with the right set up of winning this tournament.

I don't buy it. I've heard this time and time again about England. You had the golden generation and some of the best managers in the world, and you were still bang average.
