I don’t normally watch the gubbins before kick off, but tonight my Mrs has set me a challenge. She said watch the full hour before the game starts, and every time they mention 1966 you have to take a swig out of your pint. The challenge is to not to be completely pi$$ed and sleep by 5pm.

Tell her to have a glut of wine when they mention 96. She’ll be hammered first!

There were some wonderful penalties taken last night too. That Pogba one was probably as close to the “perfect penalty” you are ever likely to see.

Wasn’t that the one when the commentator said “you could have had three goalkeepers in there and they wouldn’t have saved that”?
Yeah - very top corner, wonderful. The first Swiss penalty immediately before Pogba was a cracker too.

At least the first 6 or 7 of the 10 taken were top class.

I'm sure I heard them mention last night that England were ten places ahead of Germany in the world rankings these days.

Which came as a bit of a surprise.

I predict more woe tonight. I'm lucky enough to have watched the 66 World Cup final at the tender age of 14 but since then over 50 years of hurt, the worst being 1970 when we were reigning world champions and lost a 2-0 lead.
By the time of our penalty loses in 1990 and 1996 you expect it but still hurts.

The cry is on early😢
This is a great opportunity for this England team to win something. It's time for them to step up. They beat Germany you would expect them to make the final.

Definitely not the team I would go for.

I was hoping Henderson would be ready for a start, and would have played at least one of the 2 Germany-based lads.
