So I have two dry hop additions and have stuck them both separately to the inside top with magnets ready for post fermentation dry hopping without introducing o2 to my neipa. One due in 3 days (bigger) one on 7 days (smaller).

Problem is the first is a pretty big bag and the bottom is in the wort. So the pellets will be sucking it up and getting wet.

What do you think? No problem just stick them in on 3 days as planned or do you think I need to do something about it, like replace them? Would seem a shame after the efforts I’ve taken to avoid oxidation.

So you have tried to keep the bag out of the wort by using magnets?
Why didn't you just flush the fermenter before and after chucking the hops in.

On another matter for a neipa you want the small hops dose to be the first dry hop.

I tried the magnet trick once and the bloody bag fell in the wort as soon as I put the AR in the fridge.

That brew had the dry hop in from day 1 of fermentation until I kegged it, can't say I even noticed a difference!

Yes magnets. Maybe you’re right and it’s more effort than it’s worth. Why flush before out of interest?

The Brewfather recipe calls for about 250g on day 3 and 80 on day 7.

I’m probably worrying unnecessarily and next time I don’t think I’ll bother with magnets or bag like Leon suggests!

I have only done a few neipa's, each time i have just opened the lid and dumped the hops in the snub nose fv.

First dry hops get added on day 2 high krausen, then second dry hops normally on day 5.Hopefully the thick layer of krausen protects the wort from o2.The co2 pushes any o2 out the spunding valve fairly quick i would of thought.

I add the second dry hops just as the krausen is finishing, release the prv a few times, hopefully getting rid of the o2.

Touch wood that has worked well so far and not had any noticable oxidisation.Pic of my last one thats been in the keg 2 and 1/2 weeks, still nice and bright.

I have stuck an airlock on it this time and am going to put it under pressure after 4 days. Can still flush with co2 though I suppose. Next time no bags.

Looks good!

What psi do you set your spunding valve to?

I have been fermenting at 4 psi, then after the 2nd dry hops go in let the pressure rise to about 10 psi ready for the cold crash.

edit Remember to let the pressure out slowly before opening the lid.I use verdant ipa yeast, it has a pretty messy krausen.

Oh ****. I’ve just reread this. Think I’ve mixed up the recipe. It reads 7 days 80g mosaic and 3 days 80g of citra galaxy and mosaic. I thought after 3 days and after 7 days but maybe it means 7 days before and 3 days before packaging? Annoying if so.
