I don't think it was meant as a racist slur (as he explained) but apparently those that are always offended on someone else behalf got him the bullet.

I like Danny Baker, his Saturday morning show was consistently good radio, and I'm pretty certain he's not racist. This is a massive clanger though, there's no way he could survive it. If you read his twitter feed there are a lot of comments from black people who have taken offence, so I don't buy the idea that this is down to the professionally offended.

Whether Danny is a rascist or not is obviously open to debate and I personally don't think he is but and this is the but to show a chimpanzee dressed as the royal child is a major major no no did he not realise than Megan is from coloured heritage and that people would jump om it straight away I beg to believe that a educated man of his calibre did not realise what might happen. Silly man a good career down the pan as he will find it hard to come back a second time as there is history with him and the BBC

100%

When I saw the tweat last night , it was a screen grab of the tweet, in someone else's tweet, if you see what I mean, and it was so crass and obviously racist I assumed it was a fake, or from a parody account, or something, because I didn't think the real Danny Baker was a) a racist or b) so amazingly thick that he thought it was an appropriate thing to tweet. I am actually still astounded that it turned out to be a genuine tweet. What an idiot! Do I think he's racist? No idea, to be frank; if he isn't, he's such a massive plank that he probably needs to go and lie down for a while. Like about a million years.

If you in public life, stay away from social media. It's amazing the amount of people who's careers have been ended or severely damaged over the years because of SM

Report on the news says the picture was an old black and white, previously published picture of a now deceased king and queen with a chimp...that he tweeted...that had words added...

Is there a 4th option to vote? Like what moron would post a photo like that and not think it could be construed as racist? What sort of numpty is he? Talk about being an idiot, eff me!

The thing is, would he have been fired if both parents were white? As far as I can see the baby is white, not that that means anything in this context, but people are too quick to assume any type of 'ism' these days, even in something as simple as this. Is it ill advised? Absolutely yes. But is it inherently racist? No. I don't believe it was intended to be taken that way, and we are far too quick to assume intent nowadays, and many people are constantly on the lookout for reasons to take offence, even on behalf of others which is a ridiculous notion. The BBC have reacted too quickly for fear of being accused of supporting racism, rather than reacting to the actual intent of the post. It's a stupid thing to do in this day and age, but to immediately assume racist intent is a knee jerk reaction IMHO.

doesn't need to demonstrate intent

Twitter - We prohibit targeting individuals with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to dehumanize, degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.

Why wasn't Lord Sugar sacked?

I tend to avoid social media but I do not follow Danny Baker and I do not know whether he is racist or not probably not I guess, but how on earth did he not realise posting that picture would not cause trouble, how stupid are people.

Christ ( I'll get slated as Islamaphobic for uttering that word ), what is it with everyone being offended by something all the time, these days? All jolly good fun I think. Bernard Manning needs resurrecting, ASAP.

I think there's a little bit of racism left in all of us but we know it's wrong and unacceptable. We normally don't compare other peoples babies to apes - its just wrong. He has plenty of other ways to make a living and we expect high standards from our state broadcaster.
