Good news for Wales -

All over-50s and at-risk adults with underlying health conditions have been offered a Covid-19 vaccine in Wales, according to the Welsh government.

The government said it had hit its target after First Minister Mark Drakeford said everyone in the top nine priority groups would be offered a first *** by Sunday.
All four UK governments had promised to reach the milestone by mid-April.
The Welsh government said it had achieved its "second milestone".
It comes after the top four priority groups in Wales, which is made up of all over-70s, including care home residents, were offered a *** by mid-February.
On Monday, Public Health Wales said 1,490,372 people had received a first dose of the vaccine, and 467,683 had had both doses and were fully vaccinated.

"I can confirm that the second milestone has been achieved, all phase one priority groups have been offered a vaccine by the NHS," a Welsh government spokesman said.
"We are encouraging people in these priority groups who haven't yet had a vaccine to contact their local health board to arrange it."
Welsh Conservative Senedd leader Andrew RT Davies said: "This is a true British success story and I would like to thank everyone involved, especially our incredibly hard-working vaccination teams and armed forces who have gone above and beyond delivering the rollout programme.
"This is a significant milestone we can all celebrate as we continue on the road to recovery."

England's lockdown to ease as planned on 12 April

Pubs and restaurants can reopen outdoor spaces as planned next Monday, along with non-essential shops, gyms and hairdressers, as England's lockdown is further eased, Boris Johnson has said.

But the prime minister urged caution, saying: "We can't be complacent."

At a briefing Mr Johnson also said officials are considering the potential role of Covid status certificates.

Pilot events will take place from mid-April to trial the system, with later events checking vaccinations.

Meanwhile, the government has published an update on a series of reviews into Covid certificates, the safe return of mass events, international travel and social distancing rules.

In the document, the government advises people not to book summer holidays abroad "until the picture is clearer".

Other changes to England's lockdown from 12 April include:
  • Spas can reopen, excluding saunas and steam rooms
  • Members of the same household can take a holiday in England in self-contained accommodation
  • Public buildings such as libraries and community centres will also reopen
  • As can zoos, theme parks, drive-in cinemas and drive-in performances events
  • And other close-contact services such as beauty and nail salons can also reopen
  • Weddings attended by up to 15 people can take place
  • The number of care home visitors will also increase to two per resident
Speaking in Downing Street, Mr Johnson said the 12 April changes could go ahead due to "our collective efforts" and were "fully justified by the data which show that we're meeting our four tests".

He also said there was nothing in the present data to suggest the government would have to "deviate" from its planned roadmap out of lockdown.

"We've set out our roadmap and we're sticking to it," the prime minister said.

But he added: "We can't be complacent, we can see the waves of sickness afflicting other countries and we've seen how this story goes."

I assume restrictions will still be in place (mask wearing etc) they have to let businesses open or there will be non left what would you do if you were trying to bring us out of lock down?

Yes I believe it is mask off only when seated so if you go to the toilet it is mask on, table service only, and 2 metre rule will still apply thats as I see it, I also think you have to be seated so no standing in the beer garden- how would you drink your beer through the mask as you have to wear it if not seated:laugh8:

I have no clue Chippy i will admit that much, how do you drink a pint with a mask on and do all the glasses come pre sanitized and do staff gel their hands for every customer, i don,t know the answer but it seems it's all about the money and thats more important than life

But distancing measures and transmission mitigation equipment will still be in place, so no real changes. Some will be happy with that and some won't. It's personal choice. I think we'll be fine in the summer but autumn might be interesting. Having said that, everyone should be jabbed up by then.

It was all done last summer. Felt incredibly sorry for the publicans that spent a fortune on Covid measures then were hung out to dry.

When i mentioned wearing masks i meant in places were you can (hairdresser etc) obviously in pubs you cannot drink with a mask on but if you are on a table with people from your family group you don't need one the only time you would need to wear one was when entering or leaving or going to the toilets .

Not sure a mask in a hairdresser is practical.

My daughter is a hairdresser and funnily enough is going in to work tomorrow so that she can be shown along with the others how it will work. Preliminary suggestions are that the customer will not wear a mask as it is impractical but the hairdresser will wear at least a visor and possibly a mask as well?. I will be able to confirm this tomorrow

I would not go into a barbers unless the barber wore at least a mask.

I imagine there are circumstances where they may not be but on the whole i imagine most could wear one for the majority of the time they are there .

After the first lockdown my barber was by appointment only and the next customer had to wait outside until their chair was ready the waiting area was cordoned off. Plastic sheets between chairs and staff wearing visors, masks and gloves, felt 100% safe.
