French schools will close for at least three weeks as part of new national restrictions to fight rising Covid cases, President Emmanuel Macron says.
Mr Macron said that schools would move to remote learning from next week.
Lockdown restrictions introduced in 16 areas of France earlier this month will also be extended across the country.
France has so far reported more than 4.6 million cases of coronavirus and 95,495 Covid-related deaths.

More than at previous turning-points, the politics of Covid in France is becoming interesting.
For one thing, President Macron has opened up a much clearer target now for the opposition - they can argue that his decision back in January to overrule the scientists and not launch a third lockdown was a blunder.
He was warned then that the so-called British variant would sweep all before it by the end of March - and lo and behold that is what has happened. And now he is eating his hat.
For his enemies, it is the result of Macron's hubris - the insufferable self-belief that makes him think he knows better than the doctors.
The other reason it's getting sensitive is the UK. Everyone in France can see how much better the vaccination programme is going there. If the UK starts resuming ordinary life while France is still struggling, tough questions will be asked of the president.
And elections are only a year away.

Pubs and restaurants in Wales will be able to reopen outdoors from 26 April, providing Covid rates remain low.
Travel between Wales and the rest of the UK and Ireland will be allowed from 12 April.
First Minister Mark Drakeford will announce his latest moves to ease lockdown on Thursday.
It was also confirmed non-essential retail, as well as close-contact services such as beauty parlours, can reopen from 12 April.
Outdoor attractions are also set to reopen on 26 April and ministers could also allow gyms and leisure centres to open for individual training "by early May", alongside organised outdoor activities for up to 30 people.
Both the Welsh Conservatives and Plaid Cymru said gyms should be allowed to reopen immediately.
Mr Drakeford will set out a "series of measures" to take Wales into alert level three by 17 May, "subject to public health conditions remaining favourable".
Pubs, bars and restaurants have been pleading with ministers to give them dates so they can prepare to reopen.
While parts of Wales' lockdown have eased quicker than elsewhere in the UK, the Welsh government has been reluctant to set out a full list of when different sectors will reopen.
It has been critical of the UK government for aiming to end all rules on social contact by 21 June at the earliest - Mr Drakeford has said it was very optimistic.

I predict it will be way before then.
I think there will be a spike but with over 31 million of us vaccinated i don't think it'll be a big spike.
We can only hope (that it won't be a big spike).

Weird fact and not April fools gag. Whist waiting in the car today while the wife went into a shop, a car pulled into the car park withe a Reg of 31 ***.
I had mine earlier today Astra Zeneca, the vaccine centre was run very well and rules were strictly adhered to i think anyone of a nervous disposition would feel a lot more comfortable about having the second having visited.

According to the Sun (!) 99.25% of people have been accepting their second *** invite.
A family member in their late 70s got the call at 7.40 last night, saying that the jabbers had some Pfizer left over, could they come? So that means they got the second *** a month earlier than planned - and it's one less person in the queue!

SWMBO and her workmates (care home) are having the second before the end of next week.
Same happened to a bloke at work had his *** came in the next morning and after a couple of hours he had to go home as it floored him he was back a couple of days later saying he felt fine.

About one in five people have symptoms of long Covid five weeks after an initial infection and one in seven after 12 weeks, an Office of National Statistics (ONS) survey suggests.
It estimates that 1.1 million people were affected in the UK in the four weeks from 6 February.
About 20% of people said ongoing symptoms limited their day-to-day activities a lot.
People were asked to report their own symptoms.
The ONS survey asked people if they faced issues such as fatigue lasting more than four weeks after a Covid infection that could not be explained by anything else. The most common ongoing problems included fatigue, coughs, headaches and muscle pain.
A separate ONS study estimates coronavirus infections fell slightly in England and Scotland, rose in Northern Ireland and stayed roughly the same in Wales in the week to 27 March.
Despite a slight uptick in infections in children of secondary school age in the week to 20 March, there was no indication of that trend continuing in the latest figures.
Among people aged 50-69, the study suggests a decrease in the percentage testing positive, which may be a result of this age group being offered vaccinations against Covid-19 in recent weeks.
There is no universally agreed definition of long Covid, but it covers a broad range of symptoms.
Meanwhile, in the latest daily figures, the government said that a further 4,479 people had tested positive for coronavirus and another 51 people had died within 28 days of a positive test. Although that latter figure is slightly up on the previous day, it is lower than the 63 announced last Thursday.
And after Tuesday saw more second vaccinations than first jabs, that accelerated dramatically in Wednesday figures that have just been released. While there were 241,906 making their first trip to the vaccine clinic, there were 404,922 getting their follow-up dose.
