Utter nonsense. For instance, this is the ONS report for the week to 30 October 2020, which clearly separates out Covid deaths and the greater number with (but not from) flu/pneumonia :

• Of the deaths registered in Week 44, 1,379 mentioned “novel coronavirus (COVID-19)”, accounting for 12.7% of all deaths in England and Wales; this is an increase of 401 deaths compared with Week 43 (when there were 978 deaths involving COVID-19, accounting for 9.1% of all deaths).
• Of the 1,379 deaths that involved COVID-19, 1,196 had this recorded as the underlying cause of death (86.7%); of the 1,922 deaths that involved Influenza and Pneumonia, 289 had this recorded as the underlying cause (15.0%).

Isn't the whole point of this 2nd & possibly 3rd etc lockdown just to slow the spread so the NHS don't get overwhelmed.

On the plus side, it looks like we are getting better at treating cases - so not so many are dying, but then again we are also testing more, so who knows how many additional people had it in the 1st wave.

They know that people will go visiting family at christmas, so I think this lockdown is to reduce transmission over that period, but expect another peak in early Jan - that they will probably try to pin on students again.

For what its worth, this current lockdown appears to me to be 'part time'. After extensive sampling of traffic level (i.e. going out on my bike for excersise) I can report that its nowhere near as quiet as the 1st lockdown. here is my comparison to lockdown 1:
Morning Rushhour - about twice as busy
Mid morning - not too bad
Lunch time - a lot busier
Mid afternoon - normal, or even worse than normal
Evening Rushhour - about twice as busy, except on Fridays when it seems a lot worse - so obviously a lot of weekend commuting going on somewhere

I put the lunch & mid afternoon increases down to picking up from nuseries (mid day) and schools, as people are now ferrying their brood too/from school. Biggest difference is secondary school/6th form colleage as parents working from home are now around to do pickup rather than letting the older kids return home under their own steam

You're thinking of diethylene glycol. PEG is used in all sorts of drugs, so many in fact that medical uses have an entire Wiki article devoted to them.

Roads are as busy as I have seen since before lockdown 1.

NHS is sadly getting overwhelemed and a lto of it is poorly people who have not had or been treated this past year.. Either way NHS is in for a rough winter with flu season kicking in regardless.

Confidetially told by my ex shes been asked if she will be vaccinated if avialble in december, she said she'll probably do it but is very apprehensive again saying this belief this is long term safe is unknown but agrees it is probably our only hope of bringing it under control longer term.

Unfortunately it's a result of credulous people being influenced by Trump - like science denying, conspiracy theory spreading, Qanon paedo-reptile belief promulgating people, websites and states whose sole purpose is to spread confusion and disruption for whatever their particular warped purpose is.
The outcome can be seriously deadly though.
In the light of anti-Covid vaccines becoming available, the big social media platforms are responsibly making plans to block and remove dangerous anti- vaccination messages.

It's always a difficult one because somebody will always call "censorship", but I'd suggest the policy that the management reserve the right to pull posts that make assertions about health that are not supported by links to peer-reviewed journals or media with a reputation for fact-checking. Fringe stuff that has no basis in science can get people killed, and media platforms do have a bit of a duty of care not to spread information that could kill.

The coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford stops 70% of people developing Covid symptoms, a large-scale trial shows.
It will be seen as a triumph, but also comes off the back of Pfizer and Moderna showing 95% protection.
However, the Oxford jab is far cheaper, and is easier to store and get to every corner of the world than the other two.
So it will play a significant role in tackling the pandemic, if it is approved by regulators.
There is also intriguing data that suggests perfecting the dose could increase protection up to 90%.
The UK government has pre-ordered 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine, enough to immunise 50 million people.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "Incredibly exciting news the Oxford vaccine has proved so effective in trials.
"There are still further safety checks ahead, but these are fantastic results."
The vaccine has been developed in around 10 months, a process that normally takes a decade.
"The announcement today takes us another step closer to the time when we can use vaccines to bring an end to the devastation caused by [the virus]," said the vaccine's architect Prof Sarah Gilbert.
What did the trial show?
More than 20,000 volunteers were involved, half in the UK, the rest in Brazil.
There were 30 cases of Covid in people who had two doses of the vaccine and 101 cases in people who received a dummy injection.
The researchers said it works out at 70% protection.
When volunteers were given two "high" doses the protection was 62%, but this rose to 90% when people were given a "low" dose followed by a high one. It's not clear why there is a difference.
"We're really pleased with these results," Prof Andrew Pollard, the trial's lead investigator, told the BBC.
He said the 90% effectiveness data was "intriguing" and would mean "we would have a lot more doses to distribute."
There were also lower levels of asymptomatic infection in the low-followed-by-high-dose group which "means we might be able to halt the virus in its tracks," Prof Pollard said.

The last thing this forum needs, in my opinion, is flat earthers, conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers and moon landing deniers. That's the reason I don't use Facebook.

Some of this stuff is just plain crackers and we can point and laugh at the poster's ignorance, but occasionally it's just dangerous.
These conspiracies gather momentum and a following of weak minded/gullible individuals, and sometimes people die.

Richard Dawkins said last year “People who perhaps have been a bit of a misfit in their life find a group of people who are also misfits, and they like to club together, and the internet provides the club room where you can meet people who have dotty ideas like you.”

If we can keep this particular clubroom for the misfits with dotty ideas about brewing, it will continue to be a fun and supportive community.

If we came across them in the pub spouting this **** we'd just laugh and walk away.

As others have said, this is one the reasons I’ve never used FB and now don’t go anywhere near Twitter either.

Again as others have noted, this sort of behaviour and language if left to fester in online forums takes on a life of its own with potentially fatal consequences.

We can laugh at their wilful ignorance or try to debate them with solid evidence of what they’re saying is just plain wrong but it rarely gets us anywhere. 70 million people voted for the orange wannabee despot for example.

The forum management don't have to reserve any rights at all, they can pull or allow any post they want. Remember this is not a democracy, it's a business. If posts are bad enough for business they'll go.

Having had some experience of how forums work, you are much better off in the long term if you have explicit guidelines that moderators can refer to, rather than just arbitrarily pulling posts which just leads to huge chips-on-shoulder festering for years. Which are bad for business.

By the same token, I'm sure the hand of Chippy is hovering over this entire subthread as OT, but hopefully it won't get pulled as I think it's important for the nutters to see the response they get, and that any policy that emerges is through popular consensus. I would just say that merely laughing at these people is kinda going down to their level, it's much better if you can respond with hard data as to why they're wrong (like I did with the ONS death stats for flu).

We only censor posts that break the forum rules we may have to review the rules if anti vaccine threads/posts start to appear regularly, having read the replies to out version of David Icke i doubt anyone reading this would fall for it.
