Morning all, i am slowly changing over to AG and moving house shortly so waiting until then to get it all setup,so i am having a clear out and i have got three Coopers kits to use up that i bought in the Tesco clear out recently.English bitter,Stout and an Australian pale ale,i am going to put all three together with 1kg of muntons BKE and the question is do i use all three yeast sachets? :hmm: All advice appreciated.

Been reading about an imperial stout using similar cans and want to give it a go. As well as moving soon I want to get it all done as soon as possible and I am limited with space for more than one FV at the moment and a lack of bottles.

No I wouldn't use all three sachets of yeast as all the yeasts will have different tastes/flavours, I would buy a decent yeast pack and add that, I brew AG but occasionally brew kits, I never use the yeast provided with the kit.

Good luck, let us know if it turns out okay

+1 for different yeast.

Go get a couple of packs of either Nottingham or US05. I did one of each for my kit based russian imperial and they did a decent job if the bottling sample is anything to go by...

...kit yeasts might not be able to handle the masses of sugar too well.

Thanks for all the advice, I pitched one sachet from the stout kit. Will report back soon. Didn't have access to anything else so fingers crossed.

apparently when you combine yeasts, one of them will overrride the others for the most part anyway. maybe you could pitch them all and try to guess  but I agree, might not be the best course of action anyway. you will certainly need more than one, i would have made a starter personally.

should you want characeristics from two yeasts, say banana flavour from german wheat yeast but dry and clean from us-05, you're better to ferment them seperately and then combine them before bottling/kegging... :p

hope it goes well dude.

Just remembered about this thread when I found myself looking at the coopers recipes again. How is the brew going?

Still in FV at the moment ,I'm away for the weekend and back on Monday so can update you then. Can't remember OG, but it started off like a volcano.

Bottled today,OG 11.00 SG 10.23 which gives me 10.1 ABV if the calculator is correct. Tasted very much like Old Tom but look forward to trying it after it has conditioned for a month or so, could be a nice Christmas beer.
That's all my kit beers gone now and look forward to setting up my AG kit after I move next weekend. Hope to get the first one done over the Christmas holidays.
