Just opened my coopers stout and there doesn't seem to be any head retention. Does anyone know what I could have done wrong? It's just spent 3 weeks in the bottle, anybody got any advice?

Hello Blackerdale - did you use sugar, beer kit enhancer or DME/LME with your Coopers stout? Am sat on my sofa drinking 5month old Coopers stout right now. Head ok (nothing like Guinness though) but tastes fantastic!

How did you prime it? (You did prime it?) Was it kept in a warmish place to allow for secondary fermentation in the bottle?

I've recently brewed this and it is the quickest fermenting and conditioning brew yet. About 3 weeks from start to finish and improving daily.

Hello blackerdave and welcome to HBF.
Coopers stout was my first brew and I have to say that after only 2 weeks conditioning (when I first tasted it) head was almost non-existent, let alone head retention. Maybe it needs more time? But like Yeastmaster's, it tasted amazing :drink:

Ym, how long has yours been conditioning up to now? And, just out of curiosity, what was your recipe, i.e. did you tweak it?

Never have got much much head retention on a stout, probably because I put them in 500ml Coopers bottles and rarely screw the lids on as tight as most will. Possibly due to having distance runner's wrists that can't open a new jar of jam other than by passing it discretely to SWMBO with a smile.

On the plus side, carbonation just stirs up the yeast on the bottom and gets in the way when pouring out something like a stout.
