just about to do my coopers bmaster irish stout, im going to use 1kg beer enhancer and about 800 grams brewing sugar, and i just wandered what the final abv would be if i decide to do this, thanks for any help.

 andy :drink:

I actually have this in primary now for ten days. Question though, why would you be adding both brew enhancer and brewing sugar? Thats a bit of overload IMHO, one or the other i would reckon

i know but i thought as it was a present that i would add more to see if i could get the abv up a bit, but only time will tell matter what it will still get drunk, and so will i ha ha. :D

I will say one thing Andy m8 the coopers stout yeast does not like the cold, i have mine down nearly two weeks now and i reckon i have a stuck fermentation. Gonna check gravity again next Wednesday but after 10 days it was still only at 1.020 from 1.040 which would give 2.5% abv way too low for a stout. Try keeping it up between 18-24C.

Deadman 1972 snap same sort problem you have just experienced. Just brewed Coopers Dark Ale on the 10th of Jan 2013 og 1038 and 11 days later it is only down to 1014 3.2% which seems also way to low for me. I have also being using a heating belt on it since the 17th.

TBH i am not convinced that the 40 quid or so for a brew belt is worth it, i am not convinced that the benefit of having one is sufficient to outweigh the cost tbh. I am only starting out and right now i have more important things i need such as glass demijohns and carboys plus other nick nacks like digital thermometer etc. Right now i am using an electric blanket off a single bed and have a thermometer between that and the FV to monitor temp.

Its not ideal and i am taking a chance i know, however the benefit outweighs the risk as far as i am concerned. Also a leccy blanket will completely cover an entire 33lt FV which no brew belt or thermo wrap i have seen so far will do. Plus you can pick up a leccy blanket for 15 euro. Since it is my virgin brew i am witholding final judgement but i am leaning towards a hotplate.

I am just about to take my FG so we will see if the extra few days made any difference

Hmmm. £40 for a brewbelt..... that's a rip off. There are plenty of places selling them for half that.

just took abv after a week and it,s now at 5.5 abv going to leave in fv another week i reckon it will finish around 5.6 /5.7 abv.
i keep my fv riht next to radiator at 21c and it works fine, stick yours somewhere warm 24hrs a day and see if it will kick start it to life, good luck :thumb: :drink:
