I'm hoping to brew this, this week-end (if I can find my Challenger hops)

Does anybody know if the yeast in the bottled CB is the same yeast used to brew the draught.

Failing a positive answer to that question which of these 3 yeasts is best choice. So4, Nottingham or Hop back (summer lightning cultivar) ?

Well, I brewed this last Saturday and I used the bottle yeast....but I don't know what it was.

batch size 30L SG 1045: Fermentation temp 19C
Fermentation started slowly on Sunday...constant bubbles through the airlock on Monday and Tuesday....Blew yeast out of the airlock on Weds...bubbling every 3 secs even today (saturday)

Is it ever going to stop  But this stuff looks like it will ferment for at least a couple more days that'l be 9 days from 1045, so I'll be interested to see what the FG is.

Sorry I never noticed this post.
Bluebird in a bottle is brewed undercontract, and has a different hop schedule (it has goldings as well as challenger). Also if memory serves, it is a different yeast for bottling than the primary fermentation.

Either which way it should make a fantastic ale, once it has fermented out.

Well I'm actually using Boadacea (instead of Challenger) and Fuggles ...and now it turns out..not even the correct yeast  ... which is still fermenting by the way...

Anyway, the bott;le of CB I bought for comparison...is now of no use whatever...So I'm gonna drink it.

cheers Prodigal

A cask version of Bluebird is worth finding as it is fantastic. And by the sounds of it the bottle of CB is of great use.

Goodluck on the beer and report back on how it tastes.

12 days and still fermenting at 19C...Well it certainly wasn't So4....or Nottingham...or Ringwood..or London Ale....This should be interesting

Whats it down to OB?

As it's still bubbling about every 7 secs, I haven't checked it Wez...but it was only 1045 OG..so it can't have much longer to go. I'm reluctant to open it up because of the number of fruit flies around at the moment...Anybody know how to get rid of the buggers :?:

In my Karate days i'd have popped up there with some chop sticks and caught them for you, sadly my fat fingers can barely pick up a KitKat Chunky now

I'm guessing no tap on the FV ?

You may not believe tghis story Wez...but it is true. One of the guys who drinks in my village pub visited China a few years ago and was in a restaurant full of Chinese..where a wasp was buzzing around and annoying everybody...As a gesture he clicked his chopsticks at the wasp in Mid-air .....and caught the bugger....He then relates how the restaurant suddenly went quiet..every Chinese person in the restaurant turned to look at him and then gave him a round of applause....Thing was..it was about the only thing he did manage to catch with his chopsticks...and as he now daren't ask for a spoon..he finished his meal 20 minutes after everyone else had left

Well actually its a conical......oh go on then. :)

1011

It's looking like it'll probably go down to 1010 which should give about 4.5%ABV which I think is a bit more than the cask ale and about the same as the bottled ale.

Well at 20 days I decided to rack it to a cornie (still only 1011) :? but it was still bubbling through the airlock

It's been in the cornie 2 days now.....and so have I.. Clearing nicely and tastes very promising :thumb:

 :drink:

Well, I've finished the whole cornie....at least 4 days before it was ready for drinking

And it was an excellent brew, just the right quantity of hops. I would say it tasted very much like the bottled version.

last night I tried the real thing (draught in my local pub) It was a fair bit lighter than my brew and maybe not quite as bitter, but a bit hoppier, so I'm going to have another go with slightly less crystal malt and move some of the 90min hops to 15mins...

Oh and I'm going to condition it a bit longer ;) ;)

Watch this space!
