CO2 question

Ive carbonated my ales and turbo cider for a week at 30 psi. Ive noticed on here that people purge it all out then set regulator to afew psi for serving so do u leave gas bottle on all the time so at that constant pressure but i worry if got a leak then ill lose gas lol or do u just switch bottle on as and when u have afew beers?
I got afew mates coming round sat nite for a session :

I don't leave the gas on, I just top up every few pints, the same as you I don't want to end up with an empty gas bottle.

However if I had mates round and I was going to be getting through the beer quick I'd just leave it on for a few hours.

Yeah that was what i was gonna do then switch it off at end of the night if im still able to lol
