Am I supposed to let my beer clear before kegging?
if I don't how do I avoid sediment coming out the tap
is it a good idea to transfer to a new bin add finings then clear then transfer to the keg?
Cheers

you dont have to let it clear, it will usually clear in the keg given time. if you dont mind drinking slightly coloured beer then keg it. if you leave the brew in the keg for a week or so to rest and carbonate then ur first pint may have sediment in it and be s bit cloudier but after that you should be fine, i would just keg it, it will clear and you will get to drink you beer quicker!

I have tried racking after a week to reduce the sediment.
I rack into my bottling FV then leave for a further week. Carefully add sugar for secondary and bottle using a little bottler.
After the first week the majority is removed and after bottling a further 0.5 - 1cm of sediment remains in the FV.
You could do the same with a keg but I don't see so much sediment in the bottom of the keg when empty.

add 15 g gelatine dissolved in hot pre boiled water to your fermenting vessel 2 days before racking and it will clear the ale while in the keg. Or buy a packet of polyclar and follow instructions :thumb:

Sorry to hijack but i'm thinking of adding a packet of Finings to my next brew to help make it nice and clear. Can anyone tell me when I should add these please? Is it when I kick the wort off or when I transfer to the pressure barrel?

Many thanks
Pat

usually add a day or two before kegging or bottling. the packet should have general instructions.

I let the initial mad fermentation finish, (when the foam drops back), transfer to a sanitised plastic keg, add Kwick Clear or Gelatin 2 days later its usually gin clear, so it then goes in a Cornie and Gassed up.

UP

I've just kegged my Geordie bitter last night it wasn't clear but am hoping it will clear up now in the keg. I think though with my st peters kit I'm gonna put it in a pressure barrelas I don't have any cornys free and let it clear in there till a cornie becomes avaliable then transfer.
