Did a fast and dirty dme pilsner yesterday. The boil was a strong rolling boil. And i threw in a whole protofloc instead of my usual 1/2.
Today i have this floating monster in my fermenter. Im hoping its too much protofloc and it will be fine. Time will tell

If it looks big and lumpy it is the protofloc, i have had it, it should drop out as a lot of trub

Yes that looks like the effect of too much carrageenan - aka protafloc. It should settle out but only after fermentation as it can bind the yeast and so gets repeatedly circulated by the CO2 production. Your fermenter losses will likely be a wee bit more than usual through increased trub but that's about all really.

The dosage rate for protafloc is 1-5g per 100 litres. A tablet is 2.5g.

So you’ve overdosed it a bit there.

Thanks folks. It was me just being lazy and coild t be arrised going in to chop a tablet in half. Lesson learned !

I should know better. I did it back in the day when we were using coolboxes as mashtuns, and I had 5 galls of cauliflower bits..

Yep with advice from here I now only use 1/4 protofloc in 23l as that's the smallest I can conveniently go without turning the protofloc into powder

I used to buy it in powdered form from CML, i used 3g in 21L
