This is an odd one.
Apparently the crown symbol was never banned by the EU you just had to show the CE symbol also.

I do not normally get involved in political threads as they are not my cup of tea but as this one reply is brewing related I thought I would post what I have found.
To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether EU rules allow the Crown stamp to be used alongside the CE stamp on pint glasses. (123541)

No. Under the Measuring Instruments Directive (2004/22/EC) which entered into force on 30 October 2006 the CE mark has replaced the Crown stamp to guarantee the accuracy of pint measures including pint glasses. The directive does not permit the use of any other marking on the measure.

The Devil is in the detail - so I have highlighted the detail that matters!

The CE Mark is the ONLY one that can be used to GUARANTEE the level at which a glass has to be filled to contain a Pint, Quart, Litre, Gallon etc etc.

There is no reason whatsoever why an engraving of a Crown, a horse, a person or anything else cannot be on the container as long as it isn’t used to “guarantee” the level at which the container is to be filled to contain whatever it is supposed to contain.

This is an advert on a CE Marked Glass so instead of “Carlsberg” we could put a Crown on it to honour our Sovereign!

I always assumed the argument over the crown referenced it’s use as a state assurance mark for weights and measures, alongside or in place of the CE mark, not referring to any other branding.
I think this is one of many examples showing how Brexit will end up being one of the biggest studies in confirmation bias from people on all sides of the argument, from those expecting Mad Max times from the day of a yes vote to the other extreme of folk thinking everyone will get a gold plated Bentley, and all positions in between.
My view in general is it’s too soon to say, it’s going to be another 20 years before most major predictions can be really judged. (Says this whilst picking splinters out my a**e from extreme fence sitting)

Much younger.
Was backpacking in Nepal, local produce there is very strong.
In a crappy hotel. Making a cup of tea and spilt the last of the milk (no shops open). Had a bit of a melt-down.

Also managed to stumble into the only gay bar in Kathmandu with an extremely homophobic English man (he was a lovely guy really, he did time for possesion of cannabis when he was really young, his father was a high up police office and he was made an example of).

I would agree with almost everything you say.
However any academic paper is peer reviewed for facts and confirmation bias.
Some of the effects of the current Brexit (fall in British exports, inability to lias with interpol & the Northern Ireland protocol) have already made themselves apparent.

Unfortunately I think that you have put your finger on the problem, the devil is in the detail, and that is something that seems to signify this Prime Minister and his whole entourage.
Look at each statement and
Have you heard him answer a straight question with a straight answer?
(this could be put to all of his cabinet & acolytes). And no it doesn't apply to all politicians, that is only what is wanted to be believed.

Absolutely right, they are on specific issues but it’s the macro positions people have on whether Brexit will be (or has been) a success or a failure that will influence how they view these. If you believe Brexit will be a failure, you will see examples like this as confirming your view; if you are the opposite, you will be more likely to blindly dismiss these things altogether or think of them as short term teething problems. All that coupled with a lack of objective metrics on how success and failure will be defined (other than broad overall growth measures which are dependent on a lot of other stuff at the best of times, massively skewed at the moment due to Covid) means that in hindsight, 20 years to sort out the success question may be optimistic!

Very good point.
I just finished teaching my students about bias in the media.
What you said above is a very good point.
Upbringing, culture, socio-economic group and peer views would all come into account on how you view the world and politics.

In all seriousness, from what I heard/read most voters in NI were most concerned about cost of living (like everyone else in Europe at the moment).

However the DUP did bleed votes (hardliner bigot votes) to the TUV.
I'd imagine the DUP are trying to shore up that side of their vote.
