hi, ive got a hotpoint fridge, but it will on go down to 12 degrees.
is it kaput.

Yes. Should be 3-5*C ish. Gumtree, Freecycle or Ebay is your next move.

Keep it as a conditioning fridge..12 is ideal for ales.

It will be ok for brewing and conditioning, just won’t be able to cold crash with it. If you don’t cold crash, don’t tip it.

Assuming the thermostat is OK, the most likely reason it won't get down lower than 12*C is that there may be a tiny refrigerant leak from somewhere, and so the compressor can't work very efficiently, so it costs more to run, even though the internal temperature is higher. I have had fridges regassed but in the end they have slowly got worse again so that is usually only a temporary (and expensive) solution.

If it's a lost cause, you could always install an 18" bass driver and turn it into a subwoofer.
