No, I'm not attempting a clone, it's my AG#11, or (in a Yorkshire accent) Eee, leaven.
Sorry, but I'm not getting my coat just yet.

The plan was 6kg of pale plus various oddments I wanted to use up, but I calculated that would give me around 35 litres, which is neither one thing or another if I'm to use two buckets, so I've broken into my fresh sack for some more pale.

Grain bill:
7kg Pale malt
364g Caramalt (end of bag)
250g Dark crystal
250g Pale oat malt
137g Chocolte malt (ditto)

Revised plan is about 42 litres

I was a tad concerned that 8kg of grain and 20 litres of water wouldn't fit in my 30 litre coolbox, but it did, with a couple of litres of leeway. A late start for me, lid went on around 9:20am, 67.5°C.

Let's just say that I fortuitously acquired a quantity of stainless steel mesh. :thumb:
Someone threw it away. :wha:
In a skip!
I rescued it.

I will add photos later, you may be slightly surprised.

I cut myself a piece of this mesh, folded it in half, crimped the edges together around my existing hop stopper, and secured the open end with a cable tie as I couldn't find any stainless jubilee clips down the cellar but know I've got a few on the boat. It doesn't look too pretty but if it works I've got more than enough mesh for a Mk.2 ,3, 4, 5 ...,, 18, 19, 20.... I was thinking of cutting it into useful strips and giving it away at the Spring Thing.

35 minutes left on the mash and sparge liquor's up to 68° :thumb:

Nice work Moley!

When I'm walking to work at 6.15am I occasionally see a couple of blokes in a white van. They travel from skip to skip taking anything which looks like it might make them a penny or two and they're always ahead of me, doesn't matter if I get up earlier, I think they must be wired into my alarm clock.

Thanks Sean

45 litres @ 1.043 just gone into the boiler

I think I'm going to be boring and use Challenger and First Gold.

I thought that might have a few folks wondering if I'd lost it completely ;)

I want to hold this around 42 litres so I'll liquor back most of my evaporation.

I'm thinking 60g Challenger (7.6%), 90 mins
25g First Gold (7.25%), 15 mins
Maybe a few EKG post-boil.

That should give me around 30 IBU.

Wife's gone to work, got the place to myself, 2 teenagers haven't bothered to get up yet, I'm brewing beer and hitting my marks.

Boiler's approaching 90°, hops are weighed, I've got no complaints so far

First Gold, protafloc, chiller coil and run-off pipe all went in on schedule.

Threw a handful of EKG in at flame-out.

FVs good to go, yeasties (S-04 & Notty) standing to attention.

Chiller's running, wort's down to 43° at the moment.

Had a card containing a useful few quidses yesterday from my Mother, sufficient for a sack of grain, a pub meal or a (delivered) take-away, and we've got a bloody good local Chinese, and a bit left over to spend with Norm if he's at the Spring Thing.

Had a card containing a whisky voucher from my in-laws

Had a card and a small box of chocolates from my 14yo daughter :hmm:
I don't often eat chocolates, but I expect daughter & wife will help there.
It's the thought that counts.

18yo son has got up, cooked himself a pizza and gone back to his room to play computer games, but is on a different timescale/calendar to the rest of the planet so hasn't shown any indication that he realises what day it is.

The obligatory grain shot, photo corrupted, there's no step in my bucket rim:

Nice Job well done there Mr Moley

I would be interested in some of that mesh as I have a plate chiller on order so need some to make a better hop strainer for my boiler. Will be wiling to re emburse you with money or beer PM with a costing please :thumb:

Lovely clear wort, not surprising after seeing all that break material :thumb:

Must be Karma finding that mesh

Karma, serendipity or whatever else you want to call it, I think it worked :thumb:

You swine Jim, I had to look that one up

Lovely looking wort Moley  What a great day to spend a birthday :thumb:

I always think its a poor day when you don't learn something new!
I couldn't agree more - a day wasted.

I knew serendipity but had to refresh my memory. Today I've learned about Brett and biofilms, and had to check spellings/meanings of slight/sleight.

At home or my place of employment there's always a dictionary within reach of my keyboards. I was once told that my dictionary should form the omphalos of my bookshelf.
