I'm attempting my first home brew, a Woodforde's Nog kit. Not sure if I have the right fermentation vessel though.

It's a Young's brew bucket with a plastic airtight lid; no airlock or anything. The beer is fermenting as I type. Should I snap the lid shut or leave it loose? I don't want to run the risk of a beer explosion.

Is there any way for the CO2 to vent? If not, boom! I've had clogged airlocks that have cause a lid to blow. Not a pretty sight!

I have got the same Youngs brew bucket as you and never have any problems, just press the lid on and it will be alright, I have done 8 kits in mine now and never any explosions or anything

You need to let the fermentation vent. However I have never found a bucket with a snap lid to fir that well it doesn't vent.

I find that laying the lid on is sufficient for the first few days.
I only snap the lid on when the primary fermentation has definately stopped, usually about 7 days.
